That thick glossy finish over the top doesn't look quite right either.. As someone said on here in the past, they are too perfect and shiny.

They are lifeless photo veneers under poly. You can see how changing camera angle doesnt affect the depth in the top flame.

Garbage.

He might be referring to it's association with Brian Setzer as being authentic.... maybe..... At least it's pedigree is for real.

But honestly, he isn't the first big name star to play a chibson, IIRC.

@chasenblues or someone else might recall a few other big name guitar players who've used chibsons...

I remember seeing them somewhere on here.

(not including cough cough, :slash:)

He is BACK, Ebay item #142720962453. Sent him another email, think this one is fake too!
I will try to put in a pic, just on my way out.......check it out , thank you.

Rather than email him, or report him to Ebay, can you drop this link into a conversation on the ad? Or is he able to edit replies?

I don't Ebay, so forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but if you can drop a link to this discussion here at MLP, can't you essentially force the sale to close?

eBay has full record of all messages in case of disputes...and if you offer to go outside the message will not be sent and a red message will appear....so they track everything

you can add pictures to messages as well which will be recorded

its up to seller to have question show up in ad...so this dude wont do that for sure

Does this mean links in replies aren't allowed?

not sure about links, never tried to insert one in any messages, back and forth, i think their software catches phrases like " i will offer you $576 dollars if you end the auction now"

and it will then warn you that it wasnt sent because of that

was going to send him this link but it wont get there, here is what eBay says about messaging

Okay. I'm thinking if the guys here drop a link to this thread, and if Ebay software doesn't disallow that, then perhaps the potential buyers could be alerted without asking Ebay to do what they apparently don't want to do.

It may or may not work, but it seems worth a try.

i edited my post, they dont allow links and it is up to the seller to show all questions asked so he can only add questions to his listing if he wants, so he would not add one from us claiming it is a chibby with a link since it wouldnt get there anyway

Gotcha, thanks for the breakdown. Like I say, I'm ignorant of Ebay maneuvers.

There are many many very god websites on how to spot Fake Gibson's and not just Les Paul's, Firebirds and SG's have also been VERY popular models to fake from Asia and Europe. I'm a Luthier that worked for Fender and authorized repairs for Gibson, several other major brands and also Ibanez as the only import, in So Cal. I used to be called in by CBP (Custom and Border Protection) to identify fakes that were being smuggled in at Ports and Airports. Typically the placed to look are the Gibson and model logos, the tilt of the headstock, the neck at the body, bindings, and if you can the PuP's are always a dead give-away. Even the best Asian fakes have sloppy and inaccurate Logo's, bindings are also sloppy and mis-colored because of the hasty finishes used to get them out the door. Here's one of many good site to "Learn from" on how to spot fakes, every buyer should learn to be a "fake detective" unless you are only buying new from a well known shop or store.
http://www.detectafake.com/viewProduct/?269612

Now here is the problem, with the crazy prices for fine instruments, new or vintage, Europe is turning out impressive fakes, they have a very long history of seasoned Luthiers to do it as the profits are worth the risks. Beware. I doubt that the Chinese or Indonesians will ever make "perfect fakes", but the Europeans are very well capable of doing it. The thing is a European fake 50's or 60's Martin D-28 might actually sound as good as a real one.

I’m not confident that he is bright enough to read and understand the emails you might send him.

I don't mean that as an insult... he's just dull/slow. You can tell by reading his listings. He's a dummy. Again, I don't mean that as an insult to him, it's just a measurement (like height or weight).

Anyway..... if he can figure things out, I told him to Google:

No, my thinking was to get the link to this thread to his potential customers. Who cares what the scamster reads?

I just don't get why Ebay doesn't stop this guy when we've all flagged his adds several times. I've even called Ebay myself to tell them about it and nothing..Brutal!
