The Quilted and Flame tops on these Epi's are Veneer right?
They look beautiful regardless.

Those look great! Glad to hear some good things are coming out of Epi!

I wish the Gibson Desert Burst was more like this, a dark burnt orange type thing, rather than what it is with the black rimburst.

And Dr. Epiphone, well, he's definitely a character.

Wow that desert burst is really nice. It looks great from the different angles and may be my new favorite burst!

Good luck with the new axe, the knobs look slick also.

Dr. Epiphone said the new Pro Buckers are made pretty close to spec, and with the same materials/wires that the Gibson Burstbuckers are made of.

Now, whether Dr. Epiphone is someone to be trusted or just some slightly fruity guy in a lab coat, is a decision I leave to you, Dear Reader.

Every time I see that clown I think:... "geez...Billy Idol really let himself go"

or (and this will only be appreciated in regions such as Cleveland and Detroit)..."Hey, it's The Ghoul hawking guitars! Hi Ya! Hi Ya! Hi Ya!. Scratch glass...Turn blue ..."

I have guitars with both and I can tell you the Probucker 3 in my Trad Pro really holds it's own against the Burstbucker 3 in my Gibby JB Studio. Obviously it's not a completely fair comparison because they are definitely two different gits. The Trad Pro is all mahogany the JB has a thick maple cap. One pup is covered and the other open coil. They have different wiring formats relative to each other. The Probucker 3 sounds great clean and it performs well with over drive. I use an old Ibanez TS-808 and it produces some seriously nice crunch with no mud, especially with the volume controls around 6 or 7. IMO the Alnico Classic neck pup is a good sounding unit, but for me anyway the Alnico Classic Plus in the bridge leaves something to be desired and the Probucker 3 just smokes it. I think Epi really did it right with the Probucker line. That Desertburst Plus Top Pro has my name written all over it. :)

Sweet thanks for the info. Ill have to check an epi loaded with probuckers next time I am at a music store.

I always think, "Isn't someone gonna let him and Guy Fieri know that that Backstreet Boys haircut stopped being popular about......oh......20 years ago?"

I mean, I like 50's stuff so who am I to talk? But still, that spiked bleached look is uhm,...pretty 1992.

And that's not the cool kind of retro.

Still gotta admit. Dr Epiphone appears to have a pretty bad ass job. Who wouldn't like traveling around just talking about how cool your favorite guitar is?

Can't say I've ever actually seen him play one. :hmm:

....

I'm coming for yer job,...beach!

guy's job is pretty bad ass too. it'd be great to do both, drive around and eat all that kick ass food and then talk about kick ass guitars.

are the probuckers in the trad pro? if so I like them over the stock epi pickups, I was pretty close to picking up a trad pro, but my std plaintop just played so nice.

the desertburst looks alot like the honey burst on my std.

Let's just leave it at... hitting the road to peddle Epiphone guitars on a daily basis is far from my dream job...Having to wear a goofy lab coat whilst doing so is the absolute deal breaker...Very few Epiphone guitars made after 1969 interest me personally and nothing I saw in the video did.. I suppose it's a different strokes thing but I barely made it through the fifteen minute commercial for Epiphones with the good doctor. I also actively avoid buying ANYTHING Chinese (except of course Lobster Kow and Crab Rangoon) for moral, ethical and political reasons.

I have no shame, I'd hock Epiphones like a snake oil salesmen. I can't think of a single "dream job" other then maybe being some spoiled and rich hollywood actor.

So pretty much any job that includes music and guitars would be better then a 'normal' job as far as I'm concerned.

Awe shucks!
Just $499. That's what I paid for my LP Standard with the Alnico classics. I'm sure these pickups sound better and they have coil splitting.

But I guess, they will always be trying to make better (though unproven) models. I need to realize that.

I'll keep mine and upgrade as needed.

I've been retired for about three and a half years now so suggesting that I engage in anything with even the most remote connection to "work" is going to send me screaming like a little girl. I've owned interests in three different music shops over the years and after the third endeavor I decided that I didn't want to be a shop keeper after all..one of the shops even had an Epiphone franchise in the late 70s.

After my second retail adventure I was a field rep (IOW: traveling salesman) for Multivox schlepping Korg tuners, Westbury and Multivox amps and Multivox and Korg effects (Korg synthesizers were handled by a different jobber) from town to town. The Korg tuners ended up being a big success. I took that job because at the time Multivox also distributed Marshall and Vox amps (and Hofner guitars and basses) which at that time I thought was my dream job.. and there was the promise that I may some day be a field rep for Marshall. After the field rep job I truly embraced the dark side and became a booking agent for ski resorts and county and state fair type gigs. That was the job where I discovered what idiots musicians were lol.

After one last retail venture I sold out big time and got a guv'mint job while selling at vintage shows and flipping guitars out of my home. I also played in a number of bands which also ceased being "fun" when they started becoming "jobs"...I don't think there's such a thing as a "perfect dream job" I've always loved music and I hated it when I started resenting "having" to play rather than playing because I wanted to play...Now I play an occasional gig or benefit here and there when I feel like it...or I don't play if I don't feel like it. I really did hate that something really near and dear to me, music, became a hassle. taking a "normal" job saved me from losing my love for music.

Just to be clear, the Trad Pro has a Probucker 3 in the bridge. In the neck it has an Alnico Classic PRO. This is not the same as a regular Alnico Classic neck pup but it uses an Alnico II magnet as the Probuckers do. It's also made with the same bobbins and wire that Gibson uses and specs out identical to a Gibson 57 Classic. It also sounds and performs very much like it's Gibson counterpart. The Trad Pro to date is the only Epi that uses this particular pup AFAIK. That's about to change though because Epi also has a G-400 Pro that will be shipping I think in May. This uses the Alnico Classic PRO in the neck and an Alnico Classic PRO Plus in the bridge. Another model to stimulate everyone's GAS that's probably already out of control. No pics yet but here's the info from MF:
