The Plus Top looks very nice indeed. Has the forum come to a decision regarding the new Epiphone pickups?

I was wondering the same thing...A black custom would go nicely in my collection :laugh2:

The new pickups are much better sounding than the old ones IMHO.

Those look awsome.

As far as pickups go, I only have my Epi Dot Deluxe and JB GoldTop for comparison.

The stock Dot pickups were ...okay at best...very weak, sorta muddy, but okay.

The stock BurstBucker 2&3 in my JB are magical....just amazing. Looks like those new Epi's are gonna have them too. Great choise IMHO.

The new epis are getting loaded with probuckers which are made by Epi. JBs come with Gibson Burstbuckers. I think the new customs are some of the guitars to get loaded with the new epi pickups.

Dr. Epiphone said the new Pro Buckers are made pretty close to spec, and with the same materials/wires that the Gibson Burstbuckers are made of.

Now, whether Dr. Epiphone is someone to be trusted or just some slightly fruity guy in a lab coat, is a decision I leave to you, Dear Reader.

Technically couldnt he be both :laugh2:

Anyone willing to do a side by side if you have both the probucker and burstbucker pickup or does anyone know any video that does?

:hmm:

Yes actually, I suppose he could. :thumb:

I know when I watch his videos I cringe everytime I hear his rings 'Clack!' against the guitar necks.

That NAMM 2012 video I saw yesterday was full of it. Everytime he picks up a guitar and handles it you hear, "clack! clack! click-clack!"

It's like, "dude, take the f**king rings off if you're going to be handling guitars you don't own!!"

Looks like the Customs have added the PRO name and now officially show them being shipped with Probuckers and coil taps.

I have guitars with both and I can tell you the Probucker 3 in my Trad Pro really holds it's own against the Burstbucker 3 in my Gibby JB Studio. Obviously it's not a completely fair comparison because they are definitely two different gits. The Trad Pro is all mahogany the JB has a thick maple cap. One pup is covered and the other open coil. They have different wiring formats relative to each other. The Probucker 3 sounds great clean and it performs well with over drive. I use an old Ibanez TS-808 and it produces some seriously nice crunch with no mud, especially with the volume controls around 6 or 7. IMO the Alnico Classic neck pup is a good sounding unit, but for me anyway the Alnico Classic Plus in the bridge leaves something to be desired and the Probucker 3 just smokes it. I think Epi really did it right with the Probucker line. That Desertburst Plus Top Pro has my name written all over it. :)

You knew that it's an MP Starscream, thereby implicating your own Nerd'dom as well. :thumb:

I like robots. Starscream and Prime being my favorite robots.

(with possibly The Terminator running a close third place.)
