When I string up my Bulldog kit I will have cut grooves into my bridge because it didn't have them like many other bridges out there. It got me to thinking about whether or not I would just pull an old set off of one my guitars or use a new set. I am no string snob by any means, I have used the same brand since the mid 80s. When I cut the grooves I will probably string it up and lightly bump the strings will a small rubber hammer to mark the saddles, so why not use a set of these, they are cheap enough. I would consider these throw away strings. I have never used them and I am not saying they are crap strings but for just over 2 dollars a set why not use new strings when you know you will just pull them right back off.

I'd use a set of the strings you use to play, if for nothing else than consistency.

As long as the string gauge and winding gauge is the same cheap strings are fine to use for what I would call pre set-up. Adjusting action height nut slot deepth and bridge height. However I like to use new top quaility strings for intonation work because cheap string can be deader than a door nail.

I would pull the old strings off and use them just as long as they are what you will be using on this guitar. Use new strings when you are doing the intonation especially if you are using the old strings to notch the saddles, they will be useless then.
