Changing the pickups on a 2012 Standard?

I'm thinking about switching out the Burstbucker's in my 2012 Standard for something more vintage-flavoured, bareknuckle's or seymour duncan paf's possibly.

This is, I know absolutely nothing about replacing pickups in a guitar, I don't know what the difference is between two or four conductor pickups and I have heard that changing pickups in a 2012 standard is a tough job due to the PCB board inside.

I want to keep the switching options I currently have with my 2012, just with different pickups. Could anyone give me some guidance as to what I would need to buy to do this (eg two versus four conductor wiring?)

Any help would be appreciated :)

P.S I live in the UK and would prefer not to have to order from America but any suggestions will be appreciated.

What is the difference between braided two conductor and four conductor?

Answer: Braided two conductor hook up allows series operation only (humbucking!) whereas four conductor hook up allows advanced wiring options such as series/parallel, in/out of phase and coil splitting.

Have you played with your pickup height and pole piece height yet?

Don't discount trying that out before going with new pickups. That alone can make significant improvements.

Only two companies that I know of sell pickups that have the connectors on them for the 2012, Skatterbrane and Throwbak. If you've never done any sort of electronic work, I suggest getting pickups with the connectors on them. Otherwise, you'll have to see if you can find someone who can install them. You can do them yourself but it takes a lot of patience, steady hands and eyes like hawks.

If you click the link in my sig, you can see what's all involved.

I see, I'll take a look at them both. Thanks!
