I have the COA for my R8, so this isn't personal... But I don't like these things! Lose one and it kills the resale on a guitar, which is just ridiculous.

:hmm:Thanks for all the info, but I'm still left wondering WTF happened to 2002 COAs:hmm:
There were 2002 COAs. I am not sure what you mean? They were like 2001 COAs.

Oh, and I have seen 2000 R9s with 40th anniversary COAs before.

My 2000 R7 has a COA, there were supposedly no COAs issued in 2000. Looks just like the one posted on the first page; so much for that "fact" It's a Yamano, so perhaps its something they requested for the Japanese market?

Hi,This may sound like a dumb question, but ehat is a COA?Is it issued by Gibson that comes with a historic Re-issue,or does it mean they validate your guitar?I've got a 59 Coldtop,a 68 Goldtop,a 68 black LPc,A 68 lpc,A 64 es-330 tdc,AND A 72 es-355-tdsv.I bought all of them new except the 59.I've got the owners manual and users guide for the 64 ES and the bill of sale.Other than that,I don't have any paperwork for anythingShould they hsvr come with some kind of certificate? Thanks,Bill

Early 90's:

1996 COA:

1997 COA:

1999 COA:

2000 COA:

2001 COA:

BOTB COA:

2003-2005 COA:

2006-2007 COA:

There are other variants, some from the early 80's I do not have examples of. Plus Murphy aged COA etc.

What do you have to add please?
My 2007 VOS LPC came with the COA that you have listed as 2005? :hmm:

I thought the 2000 Reissues didn't have COA's? My 2000 R9 hasn't got one, that I know of...at least, I haven't got it.
Most 2000s do not, but alas here is a COA for a 2000! And people say that there were no COAs before 1999, but damn, there are. And as for "my 2007 came with a 2005 style COA", so? It happens.

I posted real COAs as a starting point, why would I have every possible scenario? The thread lives and others can post what they have.

I have seen year 2000 R9s with 1999 40th anniversary COAs!

Why people expect "always" or "never" from a factory, or Gibson is beyond me. And most of the things perpetuated on forums are not true.

So? It happens and most of the blank COAs you see on Ebay are of the 2003-2005 variety. When Gibson was liberally giving out duplicate COAs they also were of this style.

I had to laugh at the rash of 90's Les Pauls on Ebay with this syle COA, which did not come out until 2003.

Any style COA could certainly be used for any year after the COA was designed. And, when giving out duplicate COAs, Gibson could use whatever style they have on hand to retroactively issue. And when people make FAKE COAs, they are going to fake the easiest and most readily available ones to fake. COAs are WAAAYYYYY overrated.

Sorry...I just wanted to verify really...in 'Historic Changes' thread it says no COA for 2000. I know factories cant be 100% the same all year

What are you going to believe the "Historic Changes thread" or your lying eyes?

A much treasured C.O.A., which included a Holly Plaque signed by Les Paul and issued by Gibson soon after the passing of Mr. Paul in August of 2009.

Is there anything I can do to get one?

Hi Everyone

I'm looking for a '99 R9 on ebay, the guy said in the post that it doesn't have the COA : "It is important to understand that not all Les Paul reissues came with COA’s in 1999. This one did not, it is not missing, it was never issued."

Is it possible ?

While anything is possible, personally I would doubt it.

What I understand about the 1999 R9s is you had to return the warranty card to get the COA and the Lifton case. (2002 was the only other year the R9 got two cases as far as I know)
