I walk with my head up and scanning the world around me.

Good goddamn man, no bullshit.

I can't count the number of times I've taken basically the same report over and over: Clueless guy, new to the 'neighborhood in transition', walks by the old school fellas. Loves how much more diverse and eclectic it is here, as opposed to wherever the hell he came from. He's got the complete 'Rob Me' ensemble on: Messenger bag over the shoulder, white headphones in his ears, texting on an iphone while he walks. I hardly know what to tell these guys when the inevitable happens.

'I just can't believe it! I was mugged! I've never felt so violated!'

'Uh, yeah... I'm shocked, too. Listen, do you have a serial number for that iphone? It sure would make my paperwork a little easier.'

Strange world we live in.

To answer the OP: I use my cell phone for calls and texts. That's it.

I went and got a regular phone and put the smart phone in the draw. It last for 5 days
before I have to charge it. If I want to use internet I use my laptop. I also have a pad
but don't like the keyboard as much as a laptop..

I'm with Virgin Mobile, $27 per month for unlimited text and data, 300 minutes per month. I rarely talk, but I text quite a bit. It's perfect for me.

Got an iPhone about two months ago and never thought I'd get so much use out of it. I'm on a work trip sitting here having breakfast surfing MLP.

Don't have one.

I don't have one, and don't need one.

I use mine for
Calls
Email
Internet
GPS
Games
Texting
Photos
Video
Sound
Calendar/appointments
Videos/Netflix
Music
Banking
Address Book
Magazines
Movie Times/Locations
Restaurants
TV Guide
Many Guitar Applications + tabs

I use my iPhone for damn near everything!

Ditto. Only I use a Blackberry, provided by work. If I was paying for it myself I would just own a regular cheap bottom of the barrel cellphone for call/text.

Calls are my only priority with cell phones. I love them and abhor them at the same time. I have a simple P.O.S. phone. It sucks but it'll make the call. My wife has the iPhone, and whenever we're out together it's not uncommon for her face to be buried in it.

You go to a bar, restaurant, just about anywhere and 75% or more of the people are buried in their phones.

I get it. But I don't want to join them.

Don't use it for games or even communication beyond a very limited group, but it is handy for lots of things. My navigation app works better than any dedicated device that have been in a vehicle with, and that is just the start.
Have carried it for better than two years, and before it nothing. Who'ld a thunk it would become a don't leave home without it item?

What navigation app do you use? Does it work with maps or does it need to be conected to the Internet?

Not enough choices. I use mine for quite a bit, up to and including guitar.

+1 on not enough choices. I could not vote.

I use mine for music, videos (recording and watching), phone calls, texting, internet, GPS (driving, golf, bicycling, and other), calendars, books, and all kinds of stuff.

I've never played games on my phone. I need a big screen and high resolution for immersive FPS game play.

I think a smart phone is an amazing piece of technology. A world changer.

FYI - you CAN take audio out of many phones, fully uncompressed in a digital format, and use the DAC and clock of your choice before going analog to your preamp/stereo. Maybe you are a strictly phonograph guy, which I can definitely respect, but if you also enjoy CDs and/or DVD-A discs then, we're talking about more than double the maximum quality of the digital audio encoded on either of those formats.

Even an iPhone can stream 24bit 48kHz WAV and AIFF files. I've never tried 96kHz or higher, but I don't see why it's not possible. In the setup I'm suggesting, the phone is simply acting as data storage and letting the higher end equipment handle the conversion and playback.

Interesting! Does this include regular cellphones (not smartphones)? Oh, and I have Pandora streaming through my stereo right now, via my Bluray unit.

Actually it can be done with just a flash stick. Essentially the phone is just acting (or can act) like a flash stick.

So any device that can do USB Mass Storage mode, will work.

I use my phone Kenwood app to organize music, on my phone, copy all that to a 32GB flash stick, and cram that in my Car MP3 USB slot, and listen to it that way. I found that more convenient than playing through my phone (better quality DACs, in my Kenwood deck, too), while in my car. Should work that same with a home stereo, with USB capability.

Devices that require an iPhone/iPad (??) mode, are another story.

One think I like about my daughter's smart phone, is finding a restaurant or cheaper gas while traveling. That way one can avoid chain fast food restaurants and eat at small mom and pop diners.

I use mine for calls for work, backing tracks with a pocket pod, alarm to wake me up and texting. Since getting a smart phone i dread having to text and only do so if it's for something important.
Oh yeah, the toneprint app for flashback delay too. About the only app i can be bothered using.
