I'm on my third renewal. When I initially got it, I almost backed out after donating an entire Saturday to the class. I wasn't really comfortable with the amount of info I was required to submit to get one. Work related language in Castle Doctrine pretty much covers me anyway. You are definitely writing your name in the book. I guess that should be a good thing (if the system really worked), but I do find it ironic that with all the talk about rights that the topic of submission doesn't garner more conversation.

I pack a Glock 27... 'bout the same profile as the 43, just a bit wider. What holster are you using? I bought a CrossBreed Super Tuck for my XD9, but decided to try out the Foxx IWB Hybrid for my Glock (have you looked into them?). It's about half the price of the CrossBreed and I honestly like it just as well. For the price, they're worth looking into if you find yourself in the market for a new holster. :)

I bought mine locally from a gunsmith who's father is a leather maker. Came out truly amazing and completely handmade. I used to own a 27 also. It definitely has a fatter width , I much prefer the single stack 43 but I try to carry and extra Mag when I can. I might ask him to make me a holster with the means to hold the extra mag also. The 43 is the ultimate carry gun IMO. Just point and shoot. Perfect for any age, sex, or shooter level. :thumb:

Needing a gun

One would be "afraid of needing a gun"?

If the situation arises where one would be afraid of needing a gun, seems to me that they should have access to one.

But if the OP of that post (or anyone else for that matter) is suggesting that some are in some way displaying cowardice, let's include me in that group they are suggesting as such, and come out an meet me at the Fall Philly show. Then they can determine for themselves.

Many MLP'ers have met me in person. I liked every one of them.

You both should be banned for ****ting on the op's thread. This is a thread about ccw.

I hope you never experience a violent crime. For those of us that have, it changes you. And it never goes away. Because those criminals will eventually get out of prison. And they know who you are. They know who helped put them in jail. And Google can tell them where you live in less a few minutes.

Circles wrote me a note. He was speaking of himself.

So, that much is forgiven.

Well, it's been 4 months. My appointment at the Sheriffs office was Oct. 7 at 3:45 pm. I thought this is finally the day... Well, my appointment was to hand in my paperwork and to get fingerprinted. They will mail my CCW in 45 - 90 more days.....

My cousin in the next County over got his within 6 weeks after taking the CCW course. :hmm:

But I am in the largest County in NC.

Takes about 3-4 weeks in Ohio after the fingerprinting, picture, and documentation are handed in.

The nice thing is that you can go to any one of our 88 county sheriffs office to apply. I would strongly caution against going to the county office of our major urban areas (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Youngstown, Toledo, etc). Reason being that those areas aren't really politically onboard with the State CCW law, so they'll dry hump you and drag their feet through bureaucracy of lost paperwork, or any other flat out lie they can conjure up.

Open carry has been legal since we became a state in 1803 or so. Even though OC is legal, most people don't know that and you'll never see anyone doing it.

We have open carry here. The CCW permit will serve as a purchase permit as well. Just show it at any gun shop or show to purchase firearms. I see quite a few open carry folks around.

Many people open carry in CO, which requires no permit. CHP applications are about 5 weeks.

I don't have a CCW license, although I'm a police officer in Tennessee(for the record I do not believe a free man needs a "license" for a God given freedom).

A coworker, who resides in Georgia, recently obtained his CCL in a weeks time for less than ten bucks. I reside in a neighboring Georgia county and decided to obtain a Georgia carry permit after hearing of the discounted price offered to a fellow police officer

When I applied in my respective county I was told my cost would be near eighty bucks instead of the of the eight bucks spent by a fellow co-worker. There was no rhyme or reason for the difference, so I up and left the courthouse.

I find it to be a load of bull**** to pay eight bucks to apply for a license approving of my right to carry a weapon in one county only to have the same license denied in a neighboring county because the price is increased by over fifty bucks. Screw that...I'll just continue carrying a handgun with common sense.

Be glad you don't live here in MI.

Not exactly sure what the wait times are (they vary depending on the depth of the background checks), but at least in my city, a CCW is $150, and has to be renewed every 4 years (similar to a DL), for $100.

Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association

While Pennsylvania has a specific law that requires a License To Carry Firearms for the concealed carry of a firearm, and the carry of firearms in vehicles, the law is silent on the legality of openly carrying a firearm in other situations, making it de-facto legal.

There is however a law that requires a License To Carry Firearms to carry either way in "cities of the first class", which as defined by law is only the city of Philadelphia.

Also, in PA, at least in my county - you go to the county courthouse, apply, pay $20 & get photographed. Then you sit down and wait for about 10 minutes (or less) while your FBI background check runs. Then, you walk out with your LTC (our flavor of a CCW).

In 5 years, you return and do the same thing.

I fear all of this will change after November, unfortunately.

IMO, the state is slow walking your application to be granted a Constitutional right that you already possess...err, wait a sec.

Seven months is ridiculous. All-in, the apparatchiks in the state govt probably spend less than one hour combined (aggregating all of time spent by all of the people who actually work on your application), actually verifying your data and approving the application. If the state can't provide services, to law abiding citizens, on a timely basis, the system should be tossed out.

Maryland is still dragging their butts as usual..This is where things go off rail...

5.Has a good and substantial reason to wear, carry, or transport a handgun, such as finding that the permit is necessary as a reasonable precaution against danger.

That is pretty open to interpretation and as usual mostly this is what the result is...

That's ridiculous, QSS.

Like a California-level of bureaucracy...

Good luck getting it all wrapped up.

You can get a non-resident CCW permit from Utah ($51) and it'll cover you in NC. I bet you could start with UT and be done before you get your NC CCW.

Shockingly, the people's republic of VT, of all places, honors CCW permits from every state (reciprocity), except VA. My state does not honor any other state's permits.

Actually, it got faster. back in the early 90's we had to wait a week or so for a background check.
