it is an R0.....yes but its got an R8 Neck.....
............are you sure, I thought it would be classified as an R0 with a transition neck; i.e. ~ very late '59 through to ~ early '60 the necks gradually became thinner.
A true R8 neck is huge by these standards, due to Historics never really following Vintage neck shapes / profiles until maybe 2009 onwards.
By Vintage neck shapes / profiles I am talking the mean range not the odd one outs.

The pickups are under wound, bridge is 7.2-7.4kohm.???
What specific product specifications does a Shanks possess that would result in it sounding any more Strat- or Tele-like than any "other" Les Paul reissue?![]()
If you're going to do an HM, go the whole hog. The difference between the cheaper package and RDS is about $1800.
Buy a lower priced used 2012 or earlier R8 or R9 that you like and you save about $1500 over a new 2013. Go for the RDS with boutique pickups of your choice and I think you are still ahead. Then you get the whole enchilada of vintage nitro, BRW fretboard, hardware, no truss rod sheath, hide glue in the neck pocket and between fretboard and neck, etc.
Makes no sense for me to do an HM and not go for Brazilian fretboard. If hide glue means a lot to you, note that 2013 R8s and R9s do NOT use hide glue between the fretboard and neck. That will be saved for Gibson's "the next level" in 2014!
PS I am cool with the 2013s. They play well and sound great and that's all that matters to me.
So if you put pickups with similar resistance readings into a "regular" (i.e., non-CC) Les Paul reissue, would it sound equally Tele- and Strat-like?The pickups are under wound, bridge is 7.2-7.4kohm.
To clarify:
It "felt" like a larger R8 neck, I do know it's an R0.
I can't move on the one that is hanging in a local shop yet. I did play it and it fit m fat hand very well. I compared it with another Murphy aged R9 that is/was there, and it felt larger.
"we wants the precious"
Probably a transitional as you mentioned.
Just sold my '05 HM RDS to Europe for a good price. Kim's crew does great work and Kim bends over backwards to please. I do think some of the CCs are also special (I got my Shanks pretty cheaply) - its all good...![]()

There is more to it than that. The Shanks and the Beast has a density to it that is more so than any other reissue to date. You can feel it.It is different and combined with the pickups ,there is that tone.So if you put pickups with similar resistance readings into a "regular" (i.e., non-CC) Les Paul reissue, would it sound equally Tele- and Strat-like?
Do you still have any pictures of it? I would like to see what you sold. I have been looking hard at that CC#8 The Beast and I love everything about it except I am worried that the neck might have too much shoulder for my liking. Otherwise it is a great looking guitar.
I have over 30 pics at photobucket (go to second page for outside pics):

that looks really nice. It's unusual to see somebody sell a HM guitar.
