For the same price and mint condition, which one would you choose? Also which one do you think has a better resale value?

Or would you just skip the two and save some more and get a '13 R9?

Thanks in advance.

The question is, do you want to buy a nice guitar to play or do you want to buy a guitar that you think is an investment? :)

Resale depends on many things; e.g. top, colour, board, run, weight etc.

The Babe flopped because most people don't like the Bigsby. I don't like Bigsbys but I actually think the Babe is cool. :thumb:

It is a guitar I'd consider buying if I found a good one.

For me, without seeing the '10 R9 I'd go Babe or '13 R9 but I am sure not all '13's are great & not all '10's are bad etc.

Buy a guitar that you like, makes you happy & makes you want to play. :)

Good luck.

If resale value is a huge concern, the timing may be wrong for either guitar.

I'd go with whatever guitar played/sounded better. No Bigsby for me, though. I might favor a 2013 simply because they have the most recent changes.

Thanks for the advice. Playing before buying is always the best solution.

If I had the chance, or if we lived in a perfect world, I'd A/B both guitars and chose the best playing & sounding one. That's for sure. But, I just can't do it. Both are like 2.000Km away from me. If I want any of them I have to buy them unseen.
It's a pitty but there are almost no high end Gibsons in Barcelona.

That's why I'm asking...

I got really lucky with a used GO off Ebay, in terms of playability.

I'm not shopping, but pretty reliable posters from this forum are always suffering from GAS. Perhaps a few of them could check their local, Barcelona-shipping-friendly, shops and strum a few on your behalf.

Seeing so many unloved (Damn dyslexia! I meant to type unplayed) collector's choice guitars has made me skeptical about special runs being a good investment towards the enjoyment of free time.

Babe never seemed to get much love. I think it was kinda cool but I think I am in the minority. Peach guitars (UK) have 2 in stock last time I looked for about the price of a new 2013 R8. People are raving about the 2013 guitars but I can't comment because I have never played one but I doubt there are any bad choices amongst the guitars you are looking at.

I don't think it would have flipped if they did a collectors choice based on Keith's sunburst les Paul. The bigsby had something to do with it but it was also a bright cherry plaintop or maybe very very lightly figured top which also hurt it.

If you are concerned with re-sale value, stay far away from #3. I just saw one go on Ebay for $3550 on bids. On the other hand, you could probably pick one up on the cheap. Personally, you couldn't give me a guitar with a bigsby.

Save for the 13 R9. They are a step above.

At that price I'd rip off the Bigsby and get a luthier to install a stoptail.
Don't worry about the CC value, no investment.

CC#3 for me since I love Bigsbys. They just fit my style of playing. When I pick up a stop tail LP, I'm always reaching for it, doh!

Thanx guys, I think I'll pass on the CC#3 and wait for the right '13 R9 to come by. Enough said :thumb:

I don't like the babe (original) nore its copies, so for me it would be the R9.

Never buy any guitar with the intent to resale it. Buy it because you love it and its part of the family.. Passed down to the next generation one day.

Sorry, but I don't share your opinion. Of course, it would be great to find 'the one' and never care for any other guitar, but that just doesn't happen very often. Usually people buy and sell trying to find 'the one'. And sometimes they find her. But then, their tastes change and they start buying and selling all over again.

That's why resale value is important: you never know when you'll want to sell or will have to sell.

Would you buy a guitar for 5k that you know that you won't sell for more than 2k the day you need it? Don't think so. Well, at least I wouldn't do it.
