I think that perhaps the victim group would tend to strongly disagree...

This is not the first attack on the group. I doubt that the trolls of the press would have ever reported this incident in major, except that they, too, came to the immediate conclusion that this was a Ferguson spinoff, and so made a noise about it...

Have seen them make this mistake before, incidentally.

What one member of the targeted group had to say was this:

Why did you leave out this bit?

They said Begic is just the latest Bosnian victim of St. Louis crime.

“It’s a bad neighborhood,” one said.

“It’s every month that Bosnians are getting killed,” another said. “We came here for freedom from the Serbs – to get our freedom. But now, we’re getting killed by African Americans. That’s not fair.”

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson arrived and promised the Bosnians that they would get more police officers, and said he has asked the mayor for more money to do so.

I find it odd that you can't bring up the ethnicity of the attackers when it appears that was the motivation for the crime. Obviously, I could be wrong about that. The courts should decide. I was merely giving a "heads up" to guys here to be careful.

I'm not sure why you keep trying to pin it on the Bosinian/Serb thing. That's happening but this was not related to that, according to the police and the victim's wife... who was there.

Fett once bought a cheap hamburger in Ferguson.

He asked for extra ketchup and didn't get it.

Boys, just keep the race angle out of it, and we'll be fine.

I didn't bring up the ethnicity of the attackers because I was trying to keep things cool. Dave already told us about that, and I felt that anybody who wanted to look into the matter could easily discern exactly who those attackers were.

As I already told you: just because the group who attacked the victim happened to be of a particular group, it does not automatically translate to fallout from Ferguson.

These attacks against the Bosnians have been taking place for months, and there have already been slayings.

Some might wish to excuse, justify, or otherwise explain the actions of the attackers by citing Ferguson, but let's face it: they didn't kill a cop. They killed some guy who was trying to protect his wife after damaging his personal property.

Not sure how that relates to protesting the actions of the authorities in the other city.

Had the attacks not been taking place for a while, and had they not been directed against a specific group on what appears to be a regular basis, I would have given more credence to the idea that this was strictly related to Ferguson.

I tried sir, though I did feel that the ethnic identity of the victims was germane.

Would not be upset if you struck my post.

The issue of race is taboo, because it brings up too many problems.

One guy says it's purely racial-motivated.

Another guy takes exception to that.

Now we're "off to the races".

Don't make me close the thread. Keep race out of it for that reason.

I don't believe police chiefs of major urban areas worth a hoot.

BUT, having heard now that the wife does not believe that his was motivated by the other bit, I stand corrected.

I hope the mention of age is not seen as devisive, but I cannot help but notice that all the vids I saw of the Riots, most were teenagers, and the ages of those arrested for this random crime were teenagers.

I think it's important to separate the actions of hooligans from the bigger picture of the Community.

I see it more of a bored punks thing, the reaction to the initial killing, than anything else, which is not to take anything away from the optics of killing an unarmed teen several yards away with 12 shots.

But I'm only seeing the results of a bunch of street punks, and that has been going on for an awful long time.

All this has me very angry. I can't help but wonder if this is some kind of a social engineering experiment.

Well, it's a lot like what happens when natural wildfires break out... nature gets things going, but then firebugs inevitably show up to make things even worse. Every time we have a wild fire in Florida, we also end up with a bunch of arsonists being arrested.

The reason that young people are involved more often than older people... well, I'll bet you can answer that one for yourself. However, the most determined activists, who usually tend to be older and more well-organized, are the ones who finally get something done about systemic injustices.

Chaos and the breakdown of authority usually leads to a distinctly criminal element emerging and taking advantage of the fact that the blue line is a bit too thin to maintain order under certain circumstances. Every riot in the history of this country-- no matter what inspired it-- has shown us that a certain element will indeed take advantage of the opportunity to commit various crimes.

'Twas ever thus.

Right.

These kids couldn't care less about the kid the cop shot. They are out burning cop cars and stealing shit because they want bragging rights and see that in numbers, they can get free shit.

Ignored street kids acting out for attention is what it amounts to.

Blame is on the parents, though the kids do the destruction.

The responsible adults on both sides of the teen's killing are mad about the violence, because it distracts and de-legitimizes the protests, which were not about violence and theft, although as R said, it created a cover for Wilding.

Two wrongs, and all.

This "driver" should be charged with attempted murder. The driver was in absolutely no danger before deciding that it would be too much hassle to go around the crowd. Instead, he or she decided it would be ok to pull past the stopped car and plow through the people. How anyone can celebrate that is beyond me.

you make me funny.
