Just finished this. Inspired by an ExNihilo build I saw here years ago. A few build and finished pics:

Very nice, I like the angled template for the control cavity on the underside of the maple cap. Great job. Did you put the binding on before gluing the top to the body?

Cheers Peter.

I can see the binding sitting there on the edge of the top.

That's NICE. It's like you're inside my head! I like the way you shaped the top where the neck contacts it. Slick work.,

Yes the binding went on before the top went on. The neck-thru with a cap presents build issues that can be solved several ways.

I generally don't like quilt tops. BUT that is just beautiful. Well done.

Thanks! I think they have to be on the right guitar. I’ve had that piece of maple for about 20 years. When I saw the ExNihilo SG/LP about 5 years ago I knew that was the guitar it was going on. I absolutely think a LP should be curly. This is one I did about 5 years back. A16165BA-7451-4C18-A0BA-E1BACA21D5E5.jpeg

Black Korina on the back? How does it sound?

Yes black limba neck and back. As to the sound; I think sound is so subjective, but I think it was one of the best sounding guitars I’ve built. The fellow that bought it loves the sound too.

That is stunning. Did you create the plans yourself or are those available somewhere? I’m having SUCH a difficult time with Gibson-style set necks, but haven’t yet done any neck-thrus.

Outstanding!

I remember Ex Nihilo's build way back...

That is epic!!

Love the neck-thru construction. My dream guitar is a neck-thru SG JR...

Beautiful top and paint job.

@dcomiskey - I like neck throughs but they have their own challenges. I cut my body angle, neck angle, and head stock angle with a jig on my band saw. I had to smooth and true it up with slightly with a hand plane but worked out really well.

PM me if you want drawings. I have a pretty elaborate set for a Firebird but just change the wing shape and neck angle and you can have anything.
