I had both my hands done. Very successful in my case. Key is to get a reputable specialist. Look around and get referrals. My friend recommended his guy and I’m very happy with the results.

I was playing guitar in three days.

I had both hands done at the same time back in 1994. Very successful as well. I agree with BMS, find a reputable specialist to do the surgery. The surgeon that did mine did a great job. Best wishes for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

I've seen it done. I'll do it cheap for ya if you want. I just sharpened my pocket knife this morning. It's a good knife. $20 if you want me to do it. :)

Edit* - Never mind, I thought it said "carpet".

Never had it done, but I think I'd want to do 1 at a time. Still have 1 good hand during recovery and not have to find out you didn't choose a "good" surgeon. Either way best of luck to you.

Oh yes. Definitely do one at a time. If a doctor is going to do both at the same time, you’ve got the wrong doctor. Lol

If they did both at the same time, how would someone wipe their ass? Hopefully your old lady REALLY loves you!

I heard don't do both at the same time. You wont have a hand to wipe with. I was actually told that by someone that had both done. Her Drs recommendation too.

As I mentioned I had both wrists done at the same time. FWIW, I didn't have any problem wiping... I had had a prior surgery (work comp) by the same surgeon to remove a cyst that had formed after some trauma to my hand/wrist at work. The surgeon preferred to do them one at a time but I preferred to get it done and over with.

I need to have my left done first as it's worse than the right. No surgeon here will do both at once, anyway. I was told that it's 3 months for full recovery. I'd have to live on my extended insurance, and that ain't enough. I'm going to wait until I'm retired or working where lifting heavyish items isn't a thing for me anymore.

My wife had had CT on both hands starting in the 80s when it was pretty bloody until the early 2000s when it was more arthoscopic. She has had other surgeries on her hands due to an auto immune issue where tissue grew and clamped down on arteries. The first was successful. the second was a disaster that has pretty much maimed her left and dominant hand largely as a result of staph caught in the hospital. She calls it her "claw" now due to a mass of scar tissue running down the top of her wrist and into her fingers. Always a risk.

Strongly recommend doing one at a time. Besides the aforementioned personal hygiene issue (which is a significant problem), you are looking at roughly 2 1/2 to 3 months of diminished capacity in the hand, and two weeks of bandages. You don't want to be a functional invalid that long.

Things like getting into a pickup, opening food containers, getting dressed, turning doorknobs or keys, taking rolling trash cans to the curb, and more will all be a big problem if you do both at once.

A buddy of mine had it done when he was really young, something like 21 years old. I can’t remember if he did one or both, but I remember he got the whole summer off from work over it. Just because he could, he spent all that time smoking a massive amount of pot.

Remember to move your fingers aggressively whenever you can.

You’ll be up and playing sooner than you think.

Heal fast!
