Hi all, I've been playing a les paul of somekind or another for over twenty years now, but I've never owned a brand new one straight out the box from gibson. its always been a battered and bruised studio or junior as i could never afford a standard. I've always liked the honeyburst kinda colours and coveted them for years. so when the new 2013 traditional caramel burst was released, I fell in love. There's a monster plus top on this forum somewhere that's just gorgeous!

Over the last wee while I've sold off all my cheaper guitars that i didnt play much to fund my new caramel trad. Got the money sitting burning a hole in my pocket and guess what... I can't get one. I've been to all the gibson retailers in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunfermline and Dundee and have only seen either lefty cherry burst or Chicago horrible stinky blue 2013 trads.

So I thought to myself, ill just order a plus top from gibson. No probs right?
Uh-uh. Not even normal tops or new honeyburst in stock. They have none. Not only that but there are no more for at least three months, aaaaaaaaaaargh.

There are a few in shops down In england that list them as in stock and available for next day delivery but the pictures of the guitars on the sites are quite clearly the gibson press pic straight off the gibson website and not the actual guitar. I wanted a plus top or something tasty so just ordering it to be delivered without seeing it as an online purchase scares me. I could end up spending £1699 on a guitar I don't particularly like.

I feel like a kid who didn't get what they wanted for Christmas lol.

Im probably being retarded and asking a stupid question here but the spec list from gibson says the 2013 trad has a AA maple top, Does this mean they all have a AA flame? Or is it the quality of the wood or something?

I really like that mate, thats purdy!! I've seen a few that are much less interesting. Yeah I want a traditional with no weight relief, no lockers or split pots or any such modern stuff. But with a nice top. It doesn't have to be a dapra burst but I'd like it to be pretty flamey. Maybe I should just take a punt and order one if they all have flame i guess its pot luck what they look like. I'd still like to see it first tho. I wonder if I phoned the shop if they'd send me a pic or 2. Definitely having one this week.

Yeah, they have AA tops, but every once in awhile you'll find a really nice one on Sweetwater that looks like a triple A.

Won't the shop email you pics of their inventory? Ask them to take pics of all the caramel's. For that much money, they should do it.

Thanks for that.

I've been phoning around today getting shops to send me pics of caramels from around the country and Ireland. Only two sets of pics so far but I really like the second one. The first is still really nice but I think the second will look better in real life. What do you think?

Take a look at Sweetwater (Gibson Les Paul Traditional (Caramel Burst) | Sweetwater.com)

Yep much like my own mind and my friends your opinions are about 50/50 for #s 1&2. 2 is a really nice flame but 1 is certainly more interesting with the grain and mineral marks. Not sure if its the different cameras/lighting but theylook like different shades of caramel too. Ive decided to actually go see them in the flesh on saturday. Its about 350 miles to get there but both those guitars are only 20-30 miles apart and im waiting to see pics of another in that rough area so I'll definitely be driving home on Saturday with a caramel just dont know what one yet. Its just so much money I'd rather actually see it and play it before I part with all that money. I'm exited ngd saturday, woohoo cant wait!! :) :)
