I guess if you call your teach cute then you will get suspended from school.

School explains boy’s suspension in letter to mother - News Story - WSOC Charlotte

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A Gaston County family is getting lots of attention after a mother said her 9-year-old son was suspended for calling a teacher cute.
The boy's mother, Chiquita Lockett, received a certified letter from the school, explaining why her son is accused of sexual harassment.
In the letter, school officials say Emanyea Lockett said a teacher was fine in a suggestive tone. He said he told a friend she was cute.
The district says the comment is considered a form of sexual harassment.
Eyewitness News watched Chiquita Lockett go over the letter with her son on Monday. It says that he admitted to calling his teacher cute last Wednesday.
School officials said in addition to the comment about the teacher, Emanyea had been warned about calling students bad words. They said all of the comments are inappropriate and violate the student code of conduct.
His mother said she was never told about the other comments. Eyewitness News asked Emanyea specifically about them.
“I didn’t use bad language about other students,” he said.
“All you said is your teacher is cute?” Eyewitness News asked.
“Yes,” he replied.
“What's in that letter, what they accuse him about -- if that's true, I should have been notified about it,” Chiquita Lockett said. “And if so, then I would have seen where a suspension would have taken place.”

Miss Lentz was my German teacher in the late '60s and early '70s. She was cute. If I'd verbalized that a) I'd have been suspended or b) Mr. Hammer or Mr. Starner (my History and Phys Ed teachers, respectively) would've kicked my ass.

So, BFD.

Did you take German in 4th grade??

Just sayin--:hmm:

A 9 year old getting suspended for this is counter productive--MAYBE the teacher could have actually allowed this to be a LEARNING experience--

"I appreciate the compliment son, but it is not appropriate to tell a teacher or other staff member that you think they are cute, ugly or any other sort of adjective-" Then call the parents and tell them what happened and ask them to explain to their child, in language he will understand, why he shouldn't say such things to his teacher---

THIS is what a true educator would do-----:thumb:

Mea culpa. I did not do my homework.

The standards to which I've heard kids that young being held gives me pause at times, for sure.

On the other hand:

a) What I've personally witnessed kids that age doing in the last decade appalls me. I'm not sure the standards I grew up with apply anymore.

b) One stupidity does not an endemic make. Nine times out of ten they're being publicized to further someone's political agenda. Color me jaded and skeptical.

Headline doesn't read "stupid case is stupid". I reads ":run:". Frankly, I'm more sick of that shit than anything else.

Den of iniquity right there. :slash:

Before my time, i think up until the mid 90's kids were allowed to smoke in the hallways!!! I had to hide in the alley behind 7-11 when i smoked or less i'd be suspended. i arrived after the glory days of it's true inquiry passed.

glad they never busted me for being stoned!

This remind me something from my highschool day
We were in class of a new English teacher (she's around 23 at that time, I guess). Then, some guy from the other class running across the hallway while yelling "You're so cute, miss" :laugh2:. Man, I will never forget her flusing face

Mrs Redmond, my 5th grade teacher was a black woman, and one of my most favorite teachers ever---

I was in a school that was very ethnically diverse--50% white, 30% black, and 20% many other ethnic groups as we lived in a town full of immigrants--

We all got along for the most part.

Well, we had a big, fat, sloppy ass, black kid named Reggie in our class---He was a mean fecker---a bully, and me being a little short at this point in my life, he decided to start picking on me----while outside at recess, he was giving me the business and I was fully prepared to kick his ass, or at least try---he was calling me Honky, cracker, white bread ect.----It really didn't bother me--BUT, fair is fair --- so I called him a Nag 'er ----You would have thought I shot at him or something---He and one of his little partners in crime, a loud mouthed girl who's name I cannot remember, beat feet right to Mrs Redmond to rat me out---

Now, I was at an inner city school--I had a black teacher, a Black principal and a Black assistant Principal-This could have worked out very, very badly for me---

Mrs Redmond took me back to the classroom to talk to me--

She asked me why I called Reggie that name---I told her because he called me a Honky, Cracker and white bread---- She then told me "Reggie is a punk. Don't let him trick you into coming down to his level. You are a good boy and I know you don't talk that way"

Mrs Redmond then asked me if I would ever call her that name- I said "No, because I like you and you have always been nice to me" She then explained that if I use that word towards any other black person, it hurts all black people. Because it is a mean word that was invented by mean people. She told me she was proud of me for telling her the truth and for always being a good boy. She told me she never wanted me to use that word ever again. She told me to come to her and give her a hug, she told me she loved me and that I was a good boy---

I never used that word again, to this day, unless I am quoting somebody or something that happened, such as this time.

You see, Mrs Redmond was a TEACHER-EDUCATOR---

SHe was a great woman, that I have fond memories of today, almost 40 years after the fact---

I would have never got in trouble for calling one of my teachers cute. Even now that I am in my forties and looking back, I would not have messed with any of them.

On the last day of school in first grade, my mom made my bring in a little plant for my teacher, as a token of appreciation or something. The teacher, said thank you and hugged me. If only I knew I couldve sued her for sexual harrassment, oh to be a kid these days

Awesome story, she sounds like a really good teacher and person.

What you said about the diverse student body and everyone getting along reminded me of my high school experience, it wasn't inner city but it was in LA and we all got along, no bullying, not a lot of racism (slight skin head population but not much more than three or four people), and regardless of whether we were athletes,. scholars, stoners, what have you, the cliques feel to the way side and we were all just brothers (all dude's catholic high school)

When i was applying to USC they asked 'Can you get along in a diverse environment' my answer to that was i already got along fine in a much more diverse one then yours

I just don't understand society expecting "Children" to conduct themselves as if they are adults--

This boy undoubtedly thought he was doing something good--something nice---If my son were to be expelled at age 9 for this---I would back him to no end---We would be on every talk show, radio show, get interviewed by any paper or magazine that wanted to tell our story---

This damn witch wouldn't be able to buy tampons without somebody giving her hell if I had my way---

This is the same sort of self important asshole that decided to tell a bunch of kids there is no Santa--

How about we go back and allow our kids to act like Children????????

They have the rest of their lives to conform and be miserable adults---
