Hey everyone,

I have a Les Paul Custom that I got a few months ago. I am the original owner so this isn't wear issue that i know of. When I first got it, I took the pick guard off and saw a small section of the guitar that looks like it didn't get clear coat applied... that seems pretty unlikely I know but I can't seem to figure what else it could be. The guitar is Frost Blue and the actual color layer is still in tact so I am wondering if this is something that can be fixed pretty easily or what. The color is discontinued and I love it so I don't want to send it back for a replacement as I am sure I won't get the same color and it was NOS so it has an ebony fretboard so again, I want to keep that.

Thanks for the help!

An unbuffed area could simply have missed the final finish pass on the wheel. You could use some car polish like Meguiers to gloss it up.

Awesome! Did you look at the photo? If so, do you think that is what happened in this case? It is that mark right where the screw for the pick guard goes.

Do those fret ends look wrong to you? Never saw an LP like that.

I don’t have a solution for you but as someone that’s a fan of sonic blue and other fender pastels who has considered snapping up a frost blue LPC at some point..

This thread needs more photos of the whole guitar :thumb:

Yes, they are correct for a Custom.

And yes, that are that was flattened by the pickguard can easily be buffed out. But I also agree that the guitar would look better with the pickguard on ;)

Put the pickguard back on. It’s designed to be there.

That bare spot at the contact point is common on Les Pauls with pickguards. We all know nitro is very sensitive, especially when curing, and the guard will leave its mark there.

It's been 11 years. Does the OP still have the guitar?

@Tementnoise here are some current pics. It's hard to photograph but the clear is yellowing a bit and that gives it a surf green kind of tint at times.

I have tried many different pickups in it over the years but have recently settled on Burstbucker pros. I just got the switch tip earlier this year from @fuzz_friendly

@Dogbreath When I first got it, I was kind of anti-pick guard but I have matured over time and much prefer pick guard on. Is that a mini-dachshund in your profile pic? You can see ours in the photo on the wall. His name is CJ

The yellowing is a bit more apparent on the back of the neck from my hand.

Cool color. Keeping the guard on was the right move.

Love it! I might still end up with one of these if the right opportunity arises.
