I bought a nice LP believed to be a 2004 les paul standard. It has the original checklist card with it and the model number is LP6THSNU1

Never seen a serial number on a gibson like that. 2004 the first number should be a 0 and the fifth should be a 4. Might be something I have never seen and don't know about.

Just seen you said model number. Never mind what I said, sorry.

I'm going to guess that the number reads LP6+HSNH1.

LP = Les Paul
60 = 60's Neck
+ = Premium Plus Top
HS = Heritage (Cherry) Sunburst
NH = Nickle Hardware
1 = Factory First

The model # would be: LP6+HSNH1

LP = Les Paul
6 = 60's neck
+ = Plus Top (AA Figured Maple)
HS = Heritage Cherry Sunburst
NH = Nickel Hardware
1 = 1st Quality

Thank you that does describe it. It is definitely heritage cherry with a plus top. but i think later models would have a TD for traditional. or SD for standard. The trussrod cover is just a black plain bell. So i am not sure if it is a standard or a classic or what the lineup was in 2003-2004. I paid 1100$ for it and it sounds and plays good so i am happy either way. Just trying to confirm now.

It's not going to be a Traditional. The Traditional split from the Standard in 2008. IIRC, the Classic does not have a plus top.

Mid 2008 is when the Traditional was introduced.

You are describing a LP Standard.. just to be sure though, Is the serial # inked or stamped on the back of the headstock?

Stamped - its a standard just like we told you
Inked - It's a classic

Classic in 2004 would also have the greenish inlays and uncovered PUPs.

If you look under the bridge pickup, there should be a model code. My 2001 Classic Plus has LPCP written in Sharpie in the pickup cavity. My flame top Standard had LPS+.

The color code is under the neck pickup, but you've already confirmed the color.
