Can anyone identify this PRS?

Hey guys, I know nothing about these. It was given to my drummer a couple years back and she is wanting me to take it off her hands. I played it at practice the other night and it sounds great considering it has old strings on it. I did about an hours worth of research and was unable to find anything exactly like it, so I am unable to establish any sort of value. I hate the bridge and I hate the color but having never played one of these before I was impressed. I ripped through our whole catalog without having to change guitars once. I normally use two different LP's and a strat. In any case any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

Looks like a 1997 Custom 24 with a 10-top, gold hardware and a stop tail. Could be a 2007 - do the tuners have little "wings" on them? If so, it's a '97....if there are little turn screws then it is an '07. It's a little unique in that the CU24 usually has the trem. Gold hardware is usually special order - stuff like that. If you contact PRS Customer Service with the S/N they are really good about getting back to you in a timely way with the information.

Man, those are my all time favorite tuners! I have no idea why they went away from them.

They went away from the batwing tuners bc people were too dumb to use them properly. I loved them. They looked and worked awesome.

I replaced my PH1 tuners on my 89, the earlier ones were really stiff, and I also had a couple wings break too, but they did work well if you knew how to use them. FYI the key when changing strings is to align the tuner so that the string can be pulled taught, then start turning the tuner while keeping the string taught. I used to wind the end of the strings on a pencil so I could get them tight. I broke many of .009's by locking the wing too tight as well. I replaced with top lock schallers.

Yeah, I always just turn the tuner until the shaft is turned with the widest gap towards the slot in the collar (or enough gap, with the plain strings), run the string through and hold the end of it, pulling it taught while turning the tuner until it grabs, then just take my thumb and give the wing/collar a good ol' mash in the right direction to really lock it down. Super quick and foolproof (or seemingly so?). I like them better than the various thumbscrew setups of other lockers that tend to be heavier and/or unpleasant to cinch down, plus it's a design that uses string tension to self-tighten/lock, rather than relying on a pinch sleeve/pin to fight against string tension.

You bought it off EVH?

:wow:

Wow!

It's not a color I would've bought but it looks to be in excellent condition. :thumb:

LOL. I doubt it is that EVH, guess I will find out when the money actually changes hands. I am waiting till the day before shipping to actually pay for it. Do you know if it actually being signed on the back by PRS means anything special? Interesting it has been basically sitting in the case since it was made. I hope its not a dud.

Paul has signed a lot of his guitars. I think he carries a gold sharpie around with him for just that reason, so, probably nothing special.

Sweet guitar. That one has a cool top, and I dig the "toast" color! Yeah, Paul signs pretty much anything in front of him - but it's cool because he's approachable and a people person. Enjoy the guitar, I like it better than the other one!!

I had him sign mine when he came up to Massachusetts.
Looks like a sweet PRS! I am sure you will be thrilled, and if it was owned by EVH total bonus!

Oh boy- I like that one you bought a LOT more. Beautiful. Despite not really having any lust for PRS I eventually bought a McCarty and love it.

I never really had any desire to play one. They just never appealed to me. Thought they were flashy expensive guitars. Then I played one... and now I get it. It isn't going to replace my Les Pauls or my Strats but when you need to be able to flip back and forth between the two sounds the PRS can get close and they are a joy to play. On the "coolness" factor though the Les Paul wins.

I've owned several and I would say you did pretty good. I would NEVER buy a PRS with a stop tailpiece. PRS makes IMO the best trem period. If I could put one on a Les Paul it would be my dream guitar. The Singlecut Trem I owned was cool but did NOT sound like a LP.
