I have been speaking over the last year or so with Vic DaPra and David Plues about putting together a Burst Reissue book in the vein of their Burst Believers series. With Vic and David currently at work on the Goldtop version of BB, they would then like to take a break from the process for a while but have strongly encouraged me to take on the project. I have been writing professionally for the past 15 years or so, and some of my work was included in the latest Burst Believers book.

"The Burst Reborn" will showcase reissues of the 1958-1960 Gibson Les Paul. My vision is to trace the history of these reissues up through the current ones, with special emphasis on the Historic line. I want this to be a photo-intensive book like the others in the BB series, and feature as many great shots of Burst reissues from all over as possible: Not only R8s, R9s and R0s but also Prehistorics, Artist and Collector's Choice Models and other runs/series. I would like to focus on Gibson guitars as opposed to other brands and replicas. Flametops, plaintops and everything in between; closeups, scenic guitar placements, classic "guitar porn" shots - I'd love to have the photos in the book represent all the visual splendor of these amazing instruments.

This is a call for submissions from anyone on this forum who would like to have one or more of their "Reborn Bursts" possibly featured in this book. If so, please send me the best, highest quality/resolution photo(s) you have, along with relevant info including the year/model and appropriate photographer credit. I cannot promise that all photos will make the cut, but in a similar fashion as with the other BB books the very best pics will be selected and included. There is no compensation for submissions beyond possible inclusion in the book, and appropriate credit in print. The goal of this project is to simply produce the book, not achieve commercial success. My plan is to collect submissions over the next few months, while also conducting research and writing, with an eye toward beginning production of the book this summer. This book will be professionally published, likely in a similar fashion to the rest of the books in the BB series.

Feel free to PM me with any questions. The email address for submissions is [email protected]

I am beyond excited about this project and look forward to capturing the beauty, essence and spirit of these guitars that we all love so much. Thanks in advance to anyone gracious enough to take part!

All the best,
Adam a.k.a. Duane_the_tub

Are you looking for straight-from-the-factory Reissues, or are mods okay? Most all of my Historics have been modified in some fashion (plastics, pickups, refins, etc). A chapter on hot-rodded reissues such as those done by Historic Makeovers, Gil Yarun, etc could yield some tasty eye candy.

Another idea is a chapter dedicated to some of the special runs such as Cloud 9 Chambered Reissues, Double-Carve, '55 Hot Mod, single pickup Customs, etc.

Thanks, Dan. Mods are welcome, as long as they were made to a Gibson guitar. Same with makeovers. That's a great idea about the special chapter!

I've received some great submissions so far. Keep them coming, and thanks so much!

No spoilers, but I'm looking forward to the end when you finally reveal what the best year is for Historics. :p

In all seriousness, I think this is a great idea and I'll send you a pic of my Shanks (no homo) in case you do a chapter on Collector's Choice.
