As I'm about to buy a new house in the next couple of months, I've reluctantly gave up in my quest of purchasing the 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul (version 2) which I have been drooling over in the local shop since the new year. Therefore, I've decided to (hopefully) get a similar sound from my Classic by getting the same pick ups as the 1960, which I believe to be Burstbucker 1 & 2's.
What do you all think? Think it'll sound good? Know anyone who has done the same?
I've been happy enough playing in heavy rock/metal bands with those hot pups in my Classic since I got it, but I really desire that vintage, Bluesbreakers sound these days without having to rob a bank!
Cheers.

I just gigged a set of Burstbucker 1/2 in an LP into a Plexi.

It sounded good. A lot of people came up and started talking shop, asking me about the guitar/amp. I think they sound good for low-gain classic rock and blues.

I am coincidentally selling this very set; if the pickups I ordered ever show. I'm really starting to wonder...

Have you tried the 50th anniv? Otherwise, look for a 2012 reissue to try out the BB1/BB2 combination.

My traditional came with BB1/BB2 combo. I really like them. They are great for everything. I also like low output pickups for heavy music because they retain character and my JVM doesn't need help in the gain department.

I like them in my R7. Depending on the price though you might be better off getting another aftermarket brand.

I did try it...can't believe how good it is, that's why I'm now desperate for that sound!

Swap them pups in then! It seems like you will prefer them and the change is reversible otherwise.
