And a build your own option for a Standard for $1400, obviously with limited woods and finishes but electronics and hardware are fair game as long as they're gibson

To top the list would be a new 25 inch scale LP based on the Modern DC Standard with scarf or volute. If successful I would expand it to a Custom and Junior/Special.

You just described PRS

:laugh2:

Mlp has informed me that PRS are soulless pieces of shit.
It must be true i read it on mlp
Yup. But why screw around much with the Les Paul when you can come up with a new design that doesn't carry the baggage of the old design or does away with what people like about it?
PRS and Fender and just about everyone else is free to do new, why not Gibson? And half the time when those other companies do their "new take on a classic" it's a freaking Gibson. A Mira is a riff on a Special, and a Starla or One are riffs on Juniors.

Gibson are victims of their own success. They promoted the idea of THE LES PAUL ABOVE ALL OTHERS!!!

so now it's like no one cares about anything else they do, they just want Les Pauls.

I mean even SG's (which are great guitars) are looked at as 'lesser',..because it's not a Les Paul. Everything Gibson makes other than a Les Paul, is viewed at as 'less than'. And it's 100% Gibsons fault for promoting that idea.

There are just as many famous people playing SG's. Off the top of my head? That Allman Bros guy, Tony Iommi, Angus Young, Pepper Keenan, ...I'm sure there's a bunch more I'm not aware of. They don't get promoted. They should've put an SG in Phil X's hand and got him onboard, he was playing that ESP-SG rip off for years. Same with the guitarist for Soundgarden who always uses a Guild-SG rip off.

For 30 years Gibson has trotted out Slash, Zakk Wylde, Jimmy Page and Les Pauls as their flagship models and endorsers.

Now to a ton of people Gibson means, "Les Pauls" and not "Great Guitars."

The other companies don't seem to have that issue because they didn't just promote one single guitar.

This is a great idea for a thread, Kenny.

What if one could have all their favorite appointments, materials, neck shape, etc etc etc in one LP? What would that look like?

BYO LP.

I would offer a Jr., a Studio, a Traditional, a Standard, and a Custom.
‘50s neck on the Jr. and Traditional, ‘60s neck on the Studio and Standard, and both for the Custom.
The Custom finishes would be the traditional Alpine White or Ebony, the Jr. in TV Yellow, Alpine White, Red, and Sunburst, the rest would come in HCB, GT, Ebony, Tobacco/Desert Burst, and Honey Burst.
RW fretboards for all except the Custom which would have the option of Ebony for a reasonable up charge.
