We were all excited to play a big New Years Party. The scheduled band that was originally booked, backed out and we were hired on the short notice. We first decided we didn't want to play New Years, but the money was just to good, so we took the job.

We get to the practice studio to pick up the gear during the day and set up at about 2:00 in the afternoon, so the bar can decorate around us rather than deal with us setting up and them doing there thing at the same time. The whole time my drummer is moving a little slow and complaining of indigestion.
We get done, split up and say we will meet back at the bar at 8:00 for a 9:30start.

We start on time and the place is jumping, after the 3rd song, my drummer looks and me and says "give me a minute"...says he is having chest pains. We have our keyboard player and singer do a duet (some ballad) and after a few he says he feels better we do one more song and by the end he says, I have to take a nitro pill (he has an existing heart issue) he opens his nitro pill bottle and dust comes out. So I have my wife get my bag out of my car and give him my bottle (yeah, I have a heart condition too). He takes one a few minutes later he says he feels much better and we continue. We finish the first set and I'm a bit distracted with a few things, some minor feedback in one of the monitors, playing a new bass with a pre-amp and dialing in a sound and of course concern for my friend and drummer.

We go back up for the 2nd set that we knew would straddle the midnight/new year hour...so we knew there would be a mid set break to check and see how Dave (drummer) was making out. He said he was ok, and was sure it had passed. We went back on at 12:30 and planned to play to the end (2:00) straight through.

3rd song in I hear the drums stop, I turn around and he's clutching his chest...gets up and I call his wife and 2 friends over and tell them to get him to that hospital ASAFP, and off they go. We have a guitar player from another band we're friends with come up and fill in on drums (lol, guitar player playing drums!) and then our keyboard player who is also a very good drummer finished out the night.

We got an update that Dave was resting comfortably and was ok at the hospital. So we commenced to the pack up and load out. Dave had the pick up truck that we move about 80% of the gear in and he left his keys with me. So we loaded up his truck and headed up the street (literally .7 mles) to our rehearsal studio. About halfway there, I look in my side view mirror and see my drummers bass drum exit the back of the truck, it hits the road and rolls a bit, I'm figuring scratched, but still usable, this sucks...as I'm pulling over I glance back in the side view just to see my guitar player (who packed the truck) driving my car hit the drum in the middle of the road and sent it flying into the guard rail at what I would guess no less than 50-60 mph.

We retrieve it, get to the room and open the case....parts is parts. DESTROYED!!!

So my guitar player admits that he packed it wrong, set it aside while packing and and forgot to secure it after, then he hit it...it was dark in a black soft case, totally could have happened to anyone. I am going to help him pay/replace it. We haven't told Dave yet...don't want to give him another heart attack.

As one of my friends said that night...if it was raining pu$$y, we would have got hit with a dick...just wasn't our night.

So, if anyone in the Philly/NJ area has a Jade Green Tama Rockstar or SwingStar 22" kick drum for sale...let me know!

WOW! At least everyone is ok and you can laugh about it later. Glad the drum was really the only casualty.

On the flip side, the direction this thread is taking is funny ass shit! :)

Oh, just wait, you won't think it's funny when you get older and time takes its toll on you.

By the way, are you gonna finally graduate junior high this year?

Tell you what, show me pics of your top of the line gear, your bands name, pics and song. Toss in some gig pics and a video or 2.

I'll show you my accomplishments once I've seen yours and then see what this "old man" can do and has done.

If that doesn't work, I'm gonna sic Fezziwig on your a$$!!! :laugh2:

Fortuneatly, the drummer made it...his kick drum, not so much.

We have a gig on Jan 19th that he said he will be ready for from his hospital bed.
