I've been reading and keep coming across different bridge types.
What is the difference?

TOM = Tune-o-matic-2 thumbscrews to adjust action
some TOM bridges have screw slots instead of thumb wheels.

What is ann ABR bridge? (looks the same to me) but people change from one to the other.

What is a Nashville bridge? I do not see the difference.

thanks

Nashville (thicker, mounted into studs in the body).

ABR (screwed directly into the body and is thinner).

ABR is vintage accurate, they had the Nashville style bridge later on.

TOM bridges that have screw slots instead of thumb wheels are the metric versions that are found on none USA imported Les Paul's

Nashville bridges work well; ABR bridges have that infernal wire that rattles holding the saddle screws in place.

Also the Schaller harmonica bridge used on some Norlin era Gibson's in the 70's had the screw slots for adjustment

Sometimes the ABR's would lose their arc over time from increased downward string pressure when the tailpiece is clamped down hard to the body on some models.

Top-wrapping helps avoid this (just sayin').

The Nashville is stronger.

'tis true. epi's are one example.

also, if you ever see a supposedly unmodified gibson with slots - it is a dead giveaway as a fake.

I remember when they built that bridge. The tolls were supposed to cover the cost of construction and end :laugh2:

The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority operates that and many other crossings here. One ingenious thing Robert Moses built into the powers of the Triborough bridge authority back in the 30s was the power to issue bonds. Toll collection was to cease after the bonds were paid in full. Of course, you can still buy Triborough bonds today, therefore there are still tolls collected. Thats my understanding of it, anyway (I may be wrong, but I believe my general idea is sound). The current toll is 6.50 one way.

I remember when it was a quarter.... it may have been fifteen cents when it opened, but I remember putting quarters in the basket regularly.

You're probably right about the bonds. I'm sure the voters who OK'd the construction of the bridge didn't understand that loophole.
