My tones are all based on the Plexi/Variac, so we're not too far apart amp-wise.

I normally don't use that much delay; the song we were doing at the time had an Eric Johnson vibe to it. I normally have a touch of delay, and lots of reverb.

While the bass POD is slick, I prefer an amp with speakers live--it just fills the room better IMHO. You should still be able to use the POD; just take the bass out of the monitors and you should hear yourself very well.

I like to have my monitor set where I can just hear myself; I like to hear the entire mix--if I'm too loud in the monitor I find myself actually making more mistakes...weird.

Yep--setup/teardown are a cinch!

B,

When one of us has tryed to go ampless and the other guy has an amp, we tend to stomp on each other with our stage volume. I thik we have to either both use amps or both use preamps in order for it to work. Ive gotten to where I want to sound good to the audience, even if it costs me tone wise on stage. Im used to having a loud amp, in fact for many years this same band we put the drums and vocals in the monitors as loud as we could get them and then me and the bass player used our amps for our room sound. It worked but it was extremely loud.

I like the way the pod is working, I just have to tweak some more tones, which is a work in progress I'll probably ditch a couple that didnt work and replace them with new ones this week and as time goes by just have 4 basic sounds. With the noise suppresion these units sure are quiet. I like that a lot.

Just another follow up.

Ive done 3 gigs now with the POD PRO, and its working great for me.

Our soundman is able to get me in the mix much better and control our overall volume way better.

Ah BB you run your pod directly to the PA? That rocks...I have a friend who recorded a whole studio CD with the pod directly into the mixer...and I can provide sound clips to show how good that sounds :naughty:

Man I may have messed up.

Over the last few days Ive pulled out the Mesa Triple Rec and its sounding so good, I think the next show I may park the POD and bring out an amp. The next room we play is big enough for the amp. I'll save the POD for the smaller tighter rooms that pinch us down volume wise.

But man Im falling in love with my Triple Rec all over again. I have it loaded with a pair of YellowJackets EL 84s and a Quartet of EL 34s. Its a little more Marshally sounding this way.

I may still have to find a good JCM 800 to have around, I love that sound and after using the POD and coming back to my amps thats the sound I am always striving for, no matter what amp Im using. Rectifiers are a little darker and muddier sounding than that JCM 800 sound.

Hi JVM have you ever tried putting the pod in front of your rectos clean channel. That way you could get the true mesa sound and still have the most of the versatility of a pod. The triple recto has so much clean headroom that it should work. You won´t get rid of your bad back tough. I have played around a bit with this setup and was positivly surprised. Never tried it seriously. I use both as stand alone devices normaly. Pod with headphones.
