Hmm, another cherryburst Ace sig.
Growing up I drooled over the first gibby and epi ones.

So... the main differences being:

1. No Spaceman face
2. No flametop
3. Diamond inlay
4. 3-piece top

Any other differences from the other cherryburst sig?

I reckon they should make this along with a black three pickup and a tabacco 2 pickup

My bedroom was plastered with Ace posters when I was 15 (1978).

Wasn't the neck pickup a fake cover that he put the smoke bombs under?

He was/is an inspiration. He has the best laugh in rock and roll......

This always makes me smile - Ace - Link

I would buy the Tobacco Burst.

About the first part of that clip. Gene is acting like a jerk...again.
He doesn't like it that Ace forgets his role being the Spaceman....
"I'm a plumber HAHAHA"
I think it's hillarious though.

Most people would prefer the tobacco burst modded Delux. He ended up with 2, the one that ended up as a double cut had a shaved heel, and one of them had the star decal on the headstock. Both had humbuckers put in them.
I would take the tobacco burst over the cherry

I would have thought the big question would be, is it solid? Is it pancaked?

It's not goin to have Ace's makeup face on the headstock anyway because Gene and Paul own it, it'll be the LP Custom diamond inlay, i would have preferred to see the '73 tobacco burst, reissued. but hey? maybe someday.

Ditto.

Why reissue the 73 Deluxe? It's pretty easy to find them in good shape. Especially routed ones. Would be a whole lot less expensive to and it wouldn't even have to be artificially relic'd.

73 Deluxe routed < $1,500.00
73 Deluxe routed signature series = $$$$$

If you have a hard time finding one routed in a tobacco burst, what the hell, if it's that important, getting it resprayed will still be cheaper (and more authentic) than a Gibson Custom Shop Signature Series. Personally I'd rather own a real 73. Oh wait, I do own a real 73.

:) :) :) :) :)

Ace has announced a new 'Budokan' Les Paul, here's the news so far

''This is a first look at the "finish only" prototype of the new Gibson Ace Frehley signature "Budokan" model Les Paul. The new model will be an exact replica of the guitar Ace is holding that he played in the 70s at the Budokan in Japan (and beyond!). Note that the "finish only" prototype has a two piece top while the actual model will have a three piece top just like Ace's. Gibson painted this prototype to show Ace how the guitar's burst would look.''

This should be great, but the $5000-6000 price tag, perhaps not.

I just saw this on FB and was all excited and I so want one, but since you said that it's $5-$6K I will have to pass. This is my all time favorite Ace guitar.

What they should really come out with is his tobacco sunburst deluxe with the dimarzio pups. That was his first LP. (As in the picture in my avatar) ... Love that Les Paul.

The way the red is so dark up at the top reminds me of mine!

Only difference between that pic and the guitar currently is the fact that now I have an amber toggle switch tip and amber top hat knobs. But thats kinda beside the point.

Can anyone tell me what's the best way to reserve, if possible, one of these new budokan models? Or after it has been officially announced... Any gibson dealer? Guitar center, etc? Thanks.

Got this answer from Gibson a few days ago:

Dear Mr Persson,
*
Thank you for your interest in Gibson guitars. It is currently not known if or when a new Ace Frehley signature LP will be released, and Gibson has made no announcement on any specs. In general we do not have information about the future product range, but you can keep yourself updated about new releases by subscribing to our newsletter or by visiting Gibson Guitar: Electric, Acoustic and Bass Guitars, Baldwin Pianos from time to time.

All you need is some gold speed knobs and some double cream Dimarzios and your all set!!!

Here's mine: (even though it's an Epi and now has gold speed knobs)

I saw a three pickup cherryburst Standard in the Gibson store in March 2010. Really wanted that guitar. Interested in this one too, but the price is a little steep. Already have a cherryburst with DiMarzio's covered (love my '80 Standard). Three pickup would be nice though (for way less than the $6K, I could have this one routed and a third pup installed - not that I'm planning to do that).
