Ace has announced a new 'Budokan' Les Paul, here's the news so far

''This is a first look at the "finish only" prototype of the new Gibson Ace Frehley signature "Budokan" model Les Paul. The new model will be an exact replica of the guitar Ace is holding that he played in the 70s at the Budokan in Japan (and beyond!). Note that the "finish only" prototype has a two piece top while the actual model will have a three piece top just like Ace's. Gibson painted this prototype to show Ace how the guitar's burst would look.''

This should be great, but the $5000-6000 price tag, perhaps not.

IMHO, this should have been the original Frehley signature model instead of the one with his Kiss face on the headstock.

Indeed, absolutely right!

One thing. I don't see double binding and only 2 P.U. holes???

Read the original post. It's a "finish only" prototype designed to show what the burst will look like on the final version.

It's not goin to have Ace's makeup face on the headstock anyway because Gene and Paul own it, it'll be the LP Custom diamond inlay, i would have preferred to see the '73 tobacco burst, reissued. but hey? maybe someday.

Have to say, im glad they re-issued this one, rather than coming out with a blue sparkle burst. But you'd think the TB Deluxe would be far more in demand?

I guess Ace doesn't use a "D" string anymore. (Note the missing machine head???) The D is an over rated string anyway.

Looks pretty nice. And yeah the missing D tuner is odd...

thing is, it's a cool concept and of course I love it - but shit, we already got a heritage cherry burst 3pup Ace guitar....I mean really.

Good eye! But there is a string in the bridge. So maybe he uses the string but tuning it is overrated.

A few of my guitars have broken or bent D or G tuners from tipping over and falling. We didn't use guitar stands in the old days.

It makes bending G string a lot easier.

BTW, does anybody know what year this Custom (Ace's) was made?

I actually remember Greco made one in the late 70's. Gibson is making it over 30 years late! :D

EDIT: According to Wikipedia (I know, I know.....), Ace actually used the Greco copy when Kiss were on tour in Japan.

I think everyone is going to be surprised what finish this one is going to be......

I hope it is Cherry Burst, but hear it is going to be Tobacco Burst......

We can only wait and see......Gibson is kind of squirelly on this stuff.....

Will know for sure in the near future......

Wasn't his Greco a double cut. That is why he had the tobaccoburst made into one because he always liked the looks of the Greco.
