I have only seen 2 models ever auctioned on eBay (both Perry Bursts), and I know Mark (Mark's Guitar Loft) sold one (Stanley Burst?) about a year ago or so.

The closest estimate of the number of these BOTBs produced is less than 33 between early 2002 and mid 2003. They were all special orders, and the wait was about a year.

Of that number, more than half were produced as "Stanley Bursts" (I know of 3), "Perry Bursts" (I've seen 4), and the "Slash Burst" (8-3096) with the stained pickguard (seen 2).

All the remaining guitars produced were one-of-a-kind.

If I'm not mistaken, they were only sold by 2 Gibson "Super Dealers" - Vintage World (Ronn David) who sold me the only one he ever received from Gibson, and Music Machine (Rick VanHeel), which sold the rest.

The prices charged back then was between $6,500 and $7,000 each.

In late 2003 all remaining orders were cancelled.

Lore has it that 2 factors caused the cancellation ...

1) The author of "The Beauty Of The Burst" (Mr. Iwanade) wasn't too happy that he wasn't being compensated for the use of the title of his book being used to name and advertise these guitars in the press - and again referenced in the text on the COAs.

2) A number of the owners of the REAL bursts that were being copied threatened lawsuits for not getting their permission to replicate their guitars ... AND because Gibson was using the SAME serial number on the headstock.

Note: Although the "Duane Allman" model was also released that year (with D-U-A-N-E sunk into the back) and was also Tom Murphy aged, they were NOT part of the BOTB run as some believe, and did not come with a BOTB COA.

Be grateful that you are even discussing the purchase of one with its owner. Set your price mentally and don't go above it, just like when one goes to a Sotheby's auction.

I wish you the best of luck for this would be an awesome addition to any collection.

Along with the features those guitars offered…how do
you set a price? I believe it comes down to buyer and
sellers desire to make a deal. Who is more motivated.
