I've got one, Mark. Here's one of the dozen or so Stanley Bursts made...in fact, it's the second one I've owned:

I've never heard of these. Do I dare ask what the differences are between a BOTB reissue and a regular reissue...other than the Stanley Burst.

Mark, there were so few of these made, that I couldn't begin to estimate what the price point would be. I just know what I'd be willing to pay for a nice one, and I'm sure that's different from what the next guy would be willing to pay.

R9, the BOTB reissue, to the naked eye, is absolutely no different than a normal reissue. What they are is a very limited run of "replicas" of a few of the most popular guitars in the "Beauty of the Burst" book. These guitars have tops that were hand selected to look like the original burst (although some didn't come close...see the above photo); they were painted to look like the original; and aged by Murphy to resemble the original. Each of these guitars came with a special BOTB COA, a numbered hard cover copy of the BOTB book, and the serial number on the back of the headstock even matched the original guitar in the book (the guitar's actual serial # is hidden in the control cavity (I think)).

So those are the only differences between the BOTB guitars and regular reissues...that, and the price tag.

Frank

Gibson will probably tell you that the BOTB replicas never happened.
In spite of any photographs you may see to the contrary.

Yes, and that was the problem.
I am working from memory, and I really don’t like to do that, but I can
no longer find any documentation on the BOTB Replica Series.
If I remember correctly,
Certain guitars featured in “The Beauty of the Burst” were replicated
by Gibson. The guitars serial number was put in the control cavity,
and the serial number of the guitar it was made to represent was put
on the back of the headstock. I don’t know if it was the owners or just
the “Vintage” crowd, but they complained to Gibson that the intellectual
property of that serial number belonged to the owner of the guitar and
not to Gibson, and Gibson shouldn’t be making replica’s without the
owners permission. Gibson stopped the whole BOTB series.
If this is not correct then please, someone correct me. Like I said I don’t
like posting information I can’t document, but I’m trying to fill in the
blanks for some people that are interested.

Thanks DG and Frank,

I am very familiar with the series so I can appreciate the education that you have proffered for those willing to learn.

Both of you two are a wealth of information and I, for one, really appreciate it. :applause:

I'm asking cause a BOTB replica is on my "short" list.........

I have to say it again......
