I've been posting on the Epi 59 thread bc that's the last guitar I bought. Though today, I picked up this little gem. A 2005 BluesHawk. Not so well known, and I don't know how to succinctly describe her, maybe kinda like mighty mouse--but she's comfy as all, light as a feather and of course there's the Variotone fun. Think she's a keeper.

Congratulations.
Always thought these were pretty cool guitars.
Didn’t Gibson make one similar to this called the Little Lucille?
Going by memory, which is not always an asset.

Thanks, I'm really enjoying the variations heh. Yes, there was a Little Lucille, similar to the ebony BluesHawk but w some specs designed for BB King. Tho I don't know what those were.

I think the coolest thing among many w the BH is that you can squeeze really interesting tones from the in-between Variotone dial positions. Crazy that's even possible, but it's there.

I borrowed a BH from a buddy and I’ve wanted one ever since. He took out the Varitone and says that really opened up the sound. I have an Epi Cassady and when I took out the Varitone the bass became a monster tone wise.

I ain't touching that varitone, it's too cool, lol. Position one is supposed to be true bypass, and pulling up on the tone knob turns it off. I play fingerstyle clean so the varitone is great for me, but I know other players feel it's a useless relic. Varied opinions with the Varitone heh.

If you're talking about the NightHawk, those look like very cool guitars. Do you know if they made them in any configurations besides humbuckers? I had never seen the BluesHawk until recently but had seen the NightHawk body in pics previously. Some really pretty tops out there. I don't know why people considered that model ugly. I thought it was a very good looking guitar from the moment I saw it. You really can't beat the weight and form factor. Extremely comfortable design.

Sweet. Looks like it's in beautiful shape. I'm sure you've enjoyed playing it.

If anyone's interested, here's the general clean tone of the BluesHawk w the Varitone engaged around the middle setting. Recorded on my phone. Think I only had the reverb on.
