Hi Twang,

I have the Handsome Devil - why do you think there is no stand by? I've noticed that the tubes seem to heat up much slower than other tube amps I've used - is this to compensate for the lack of stand-by i.e. slow start-up?

I've been thinking of getting the head but I've heard that there are hissing issues with the presence turned up. Is this true? What does it sound like with the presence turned down to the point that there is no hiss?

I have my presence at around 6 or 7 and I don't notice any hum.

Mine is totally quiet - that was one of the nice surprises after hearing some concerns about noise levels. Mind you, the new units (mine included) are now manufactured in Korea rather than China - don't know if that makes a difference or not.

There are a few things to do to kill the hum, even rewiring the heaters..

this one still spaghettied up a bit before final work.

There are people who don't bother with a standby at all.. modders I mean. I always put one in.
