Kids totally wear black socks these days. Many colors in fact

White socks ONLY during sport
With sandels NO socks
With shorts and shoes/sneakers MAX ankle socks, better ones that are hardly visable (black please unless white sneakers)
Otherwise black

Apparently, I am European, 'cause this is my socks protocol as well. I have one amendment, however: White athletic style socks are allowed when wearing boots of any style.

I buy black socks because I can buy black socks in big bags of black socks cheaper than big bags of colored socks... I find it much easier to match my clothes wearing black socks as black socks go with anything. Over my lifetime, I've had to make a lot of decisions far more important than what color socks I wear with different clothes.

I have never, do not at present, and likely will never give a tinker's damn what anybody thinks of my socks.

If one even wishes to wear Ninja Turtles socks with their bunny slippers every morning, knock yourself out.
