I've been with Far Cry since the first game.

Followed it through Far Cry 4 and did all the Crysis games (the dev who bought the first Far Cry game).

Loved them all.

My best memory is Far Cry 2. Driving through Africa was awesome. Far Cry did not let down with the follow ups.

Crysis 3 is really good too.

Great game series.

No BS, this is what my game looks like. :thumb: Runs smooth as well. They weren't lying back when they said the Frostbite engine had so much potential that they couldn't unlock with current gen. It's just getting better and better. No SP sucks and the outcry for more non DLC content is huge, companies these days are just milking gamers releasing full games in 3-4 installments. It's pathetic.

Vietcong is still my favorite single player game ever. Literally nothing has come close to it, it's probably why I don't really enjoy many single player games these days. The environment, sounds, music.. just amazing. The music in the game is what got me started on guitar. Hey Joe's in the opening cinematic, I asked my Dad who it was and he said Hendrix, it's Deep Purple but there you go. A couple days later I asked to learn the guitar. If they'd remake that game I'd literally be in tears of joy. Snowballs chance though. If I won the lottery, I'd get it done. :)

I hate 3rd person view ... unless it is a female main character ... then well ... 3rd person view is the way to go.

:thumb:

One problem with online games with 3rd person and female toons ... numb nuts hit on you ... like they may be 1 actual girl in the game all night tonight and it ain't me. :laugh2:

Way back in the days of Everquest and Asheron's Call (and later Dark Age of Camelot and WoW), I had a male friend who always played female characters. He'd actually get tons of free stuff from people who would hit on him in the game, so strange!

Crysis 3 was sweet. just wish it was an open world like FC3. i mean it was pretty open, but you know what i mean. i hope they make Crysis 4 for Xbox One

someone should make a Lord Of The Rings game like Skyrim. BIG open world. lots of things to do. killer graphics. a game you can play for a long time. i hate these 5 hour games like Call Of Duty. COD is sweet but its too short!

yeah the 5-6 hour campaigns suck.

...getting excited about Skyrim, I keep seeing it mentioned. Ordered on Amazon should be here next week. (Legendary Edition + all DLC for $13. ) :thumb: Win!

I really want to play Mafia II because it ran so slow on my computer I stopped after a few missions. But the reviews say it's totally linear and not open world at all. ...I hate that. ...maybe if I see it for like $5. used or something I'll pick it up.

Watch_Dogs was like that. Not really open world. ..not like Red Dead Redeption or GTA5

I clicked on this thread thinking it'll be all about how modern games seem to prioritize online multiplayer over single player campaigns, and I got talk about the deeper games of today...which is cool, BUT-

One thing that irks me about modern games is the focus on online multiplayer with single player campaigns being an afterthought or omitted completely...look at Titanfall, Evolve, and Star Wars Battlefront...this irks me for two reasons:

  1. I don't do online multiplayer...if I want to play games with someone, I'd rather it be with people I know in the real world rather than a bunch of kids using inappropriate language or language inappropriately (you do NOT use the word "rape" lightly)
  2. It takes far more effort to make a game that's appealing to individual players...writing a story takes narrative skill and programming good AI opponents with unique art design requires more creativity and talent than just making a few easily palette swapped "bot" designs
The best example I can give of a game/series of games that melds single and multiplayer well is Borderlands, especially the second one (haven't played The Pre-Sequel yet so I can't judge)...the game not only is a blast to play alone or with friends, but also has a deep universe that can serve as an excellent platform for storytelling that involves both laugh out loud comedy and serious drama with the occasional holy-God-I-cannot-believe-that-just-happened moment (see: the Tales from the Borderlands spinoff series)

I'm hoping taking a break from Borderlands with Battleborn will give Gearbox a chance to make that game into a MMO cash cow and keep the series' single/multiplayer balance intact

people keep mentioning Borderlands.

I took a look at it but didn't like the cell-shaded cartoony graphics. But maybe I need to give it another look.

I've heard that more than once...but actually, originally the art style was more gritty/grungy:

Apparently, people kept confusing the game with Fallout 3 and Rage (which really was a missed opportunity for both Id and Bethesda, but that's a topic unto itself) in previews, so they changed it to something more unique and if you ask me, much better suited to the game's anarchic/irreverent vibe

Definitely check it out...the second one is definitely deeper (I don't know that I'd necessarily call it better), but you'll appreciate it more if you've played the original first

Borderlands is one of the few things that actually lives up to its hype in my opinion

Hype can be a b*tch.

I knew people that were disappointed with TLoU because of the hype and it's like, "I said it was a really good game I didn't say it came with blowjobs." :laugh2:

I think it was the cartoony graphics that made me pass up Borderlands for a long time.

Mistake on my part. The game(s) are so well done, you quickly forget about the cartoony drawing.

Really the cartoon with black outlines are a part of the feel of it being right out of graphic novel pages. Though I don't think there were any comics before the game.

Tons of DLC. 100s of hours of game play ... with just 1 character through the 3 games. If you did all the characters (which you should as each is a whole other look at the game) .. then all the DLC ... then all the play modes (3 for each character) ... you could get to 1000 hours pretty easy.

Then there are save editors available to make setting up toons for local lan parties really easy. Yeah, it violates console rules (well the actual copying back to the console is where it violates terms), but not so for PC/Steam.

So much to do, so many hours, and some well done dark comedy along the way.

Takes a while to catch the comedy, as it is hard to concentrate on the story with so many baddies pounding you all the time. But once you catch the flow and can actually listen to the spoken lines ...probably by the 2nd or 3rd play through of each character ... the story starts to come to life.

The games have to be dirt cheap now, and no reason not to get the game of the year addition of each. Then get the extra characters for the 2nd and 3rd games, some of the best characters in the games (Gaige, Aurelia, and not-Jack were my favorite toons by the end).

It does get better as you go. I would recommend checking out Megaton first and doing the quests there... After you get through that, you'll have some clout to roam around other places. It really does take off and has IMO, one of the coolest story-lines in any game I've played. Some of the quests are just downright awesome.

I would recommend playing it more like an RPG than a shooter... Use VATs, playing it like an FPS is going to bring much disappointment. FO:4 you can play more in that capacity.

I just restarted FO3 again last night using this tip....Im liking it much better this time around. I started off doing the Survival Guide quests for Moira and now Im on chapter 3 for her and Im not dying every 10 seconds:laugh2:

I bought Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 around the same time. I was way more excited about Fallout 4 as I loved Fallout 3. So I played it exclusively. Then I decided to fire up Witcher 3 to see what all the fuss was about.

I haven't been back to Fallout 4 since.

I think they made that game. It's called Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor. I haven't played it, but it got great reviews. PS4/Xbone graphics. Open world.

Shadow of Mordor is the only "middle earth" game I've ever played. A friend was all into it. So I grabbed it so we could compare notes.

The stealth play hooked me. Lots of stealth ... easy stealth too .. can't see you across a room and if they do just duck out of site and the chase is over. :laugh2: Still fun.

The fighting was new to me ... not being a fighting game player ... but not so complicated I couldn't do it.

Climb some towers Far Cry / Assassin's Creed style to unlock map areas.

Ride some saber tooth cats. (or sumthin' like that)

Fun.
