What do you all think? Will games in the future make a crossover to more accepted/mainstream entertainment like Television?

I think they already pretty much have, **** I mean there was League of Legends tournaments shown on ESPN a little while ago.

that's pretty wild I didn't know that.

I know overseas they have Starcraft tournaments. Winners get tens of thousands of dollars.

Starcraft was huge, the competitive scene has died down quite a bit though. Right now (as far as prize money amounts) it's League, DOTA, Call of Duty, Counterstrike, Halo, Hearthstone (play a tonnnnn of Hearthstone myself).

The payout for the The International 2015 DOTA 2 tournament was north of $18 million dollars :wow:

I have Fallout 3 and have the same issue. Too many menus and constant reading. Every 2 seconds I'm stopping to read something. Even the battle system is menus. I know it's supposed to be a great game and I keep meaning to go back to it but I think you have to be in the mood for it.

and plugging a controller into the PC has been cool because I could go back and get older games like Castlevania and Driver:parallel Lines. So suddenly I have too many games. :laugh2: not a bad problem to have.

I hated PC controllers before. They were cheap and flimsy like Mad Katz and stuff. But the ps3 Dualshock or the xbox 360 controllers work great and they're actually good, well made controllers. And a lot of PC games of the past 5 years seem to recognize the controller right away and do all the button mapping. So you can just hit 'start' and play. :dude:

i only got a couple hours into Fallout 3. too much reading, not enough shootin.

another thing, Far Cry 3. by the time you get awesome weapons, the games almost over! but its probably my fav game so far. FC4 seems ok but i havent gotten that far yet

I really liked the Mass Effect series of games. Cool storyline. I actually liked the cutscenes.

I didn't mind Fallout 4 but found there was too much walking around looking for stuff and time wasting aspects of the game.

The Batman Arkham series games were also well done but again, some aspects are time wasters like the Riddler stuff.

I still need to try out Rocksmith!

Oh yeah! I kinda forgot about Mass Effect. Scifi shooter with a good story. Mass Effect 2 had some really great character development and it was pretty cool that choices you made in the first game carried through all the way to the 3rd game. And at first I thought the ending kinda sucked, but then I read a theory that it really meant Shepard was assimilated at the end and the ending wasn't real. I like that idea better.

I haven't played Bioshock. Guess I need to!

The game that changed everything for me was Resident Evil. My buddy brought over his Playstation. Told me to turn off the lights and gave me the controller. It was the frst time a game scared the crap out of me. Good, jumpy, horror type stuff. Until then I never even heard of a horror game. I was HOOKED.

Up until that point I was a Nintendo guy. We all played N64 before the PS. All fun games, jolly games.

I'll never forget that day. :dude:

that's true. I had a buddy do the same, though it was Resident Evil 2 (the police station)

those tank controls though. have you gone back and tried it again? It's impossible. :laugh2:

Horror games just don't do it for me. Horror movies either. I don't particularly enjoy ass-clinching terror. :laugh2:

I remember the tank! It was horrible. I haven't gone back. I found the gameplay lacking once games started to really improve. I still loved the story. It was my first experience with a game with a script like a movie. I was floored.

I haven't played any version of that game in a long long time. I think 5 peaked my interest but I was onto Xbox by then and that version wasn't available when I was ready to revisit. Then I ended up being districted and not lookin back.

I'm really close to diving back into games. That world has evolved so much that I can't even imagine how well games are done these days. You and RCole are sucking me back in. :laugh2:

Never got into Assasins Creed or Far Cry (same game, basically), but I loved Fallout, Dragon Age, Skyrim, Mass Effect, GTA. Bioshock was pretty decent too. And Thief.

For me it's the character customization that adds so much to the game. Be anyone, do anything.

Assassin's Creed has a ton of character customization. I forget which one it was, but the one set in Rome was pretty awesome. The legendary armor that you get, piece by piece is the Brutus armor. Pretty cool.

AC is also compleeeeeeetly different from Far Cry. Both great games. Nothing alike really.

Different time zones but the same game aren't they? Unlock the "tower" in a region by climbing it, take out the guards, discover the other items, then move to the next region. Felt like the same game with different skins.

Well jeez, when you put it like that, they do sound the same. :laugh2:

Still, guns and splosions versus swords and hand to hand combat. The feel of the games were very different. Plus there is way more customization in AC if you like that stuff.

I had to take Unreal Tournament off my computer - I was playing it wayyyy too much. I've stayed away from games since then, but have seen them evolve out of the corner of my eye. My current spark of interest is VR, and they games and [?] that will evolve from it.

Not all great games need a story, and Im just making presumptions about how great it will be, I dont know if it actually will be any good, but "no mans sky" looks amazing. Personally, Im a space freak, love it, and the ability to 18 quintillion planets that even the devs havent seen all of? mind blowing.
