Binding and width of SG neck

Hi all, I'm looking at this SG here and I am troubled by the binding. You can't play over the nibs. So doesn't that mean that the neck has unnecessary extra thickness due to the binding and nibs? The strings look too far from the neck edges. Would the SG Tribute (no binding) have a narrower neck? Same question for LPs. I have small hands so it is important to me.

What year is that? It looks wide like a 2015 model.

Yes, it appears to be a 2015 or HP model. You do have extra room for vibrato though!

Nothing is wrong, my SG Standard is the same.
