I can,t find any reference to these fantastic birds here, so decided to start this thread in honor of them.
Someone obviously put some thought into these birds before making such radical changes as the 2 piece neck, like the orig. 63, but now w.o. Binding.
The other obvious change is the stop tail , IMO , another improvement.
Not sure what is under the p.u. Covers but they sound great, muchl like the
Early ones.
Mines also lightweight ,8 lbs, even w the banjo tuners and all that heavy mystery metal in the tailpiece.

got one about a year ago with an old headstock repair. cured me of my jones for a 60's bird. I have a 91and the 76 is just is a better guitar simple as that.

Would it be possible they still had leftovers from the early 60;s ?

The story I heard is the 72 medallion birds are said to be 60's leftover pups. You know that is, people are always trying to like a perfectly good guitar with it collectors fetish year. Ashamed that being a well made quality guitar is not good enough. The 76 are made differently, there is a thread with photos of all the types
