What years are the best years for flying V’s or does it not matter so much? Any years to avoid etc? Also which years came with cases or gigbags?

Depends. I thought ‘58s were the holy grail of Vs (as they are to most/many) until I played enough ‘71-‘82 are hands down the best, IMO, Norlin be damned.

speaking of hands, they’re thin nut width, so they don’t work for many, but ‘67 RIs are not the same.

84-88 are backroutes- rare now, but not my cup of tea. 67 RIs went to about ‘15 with some attesting to different years being better/worse. Ebony went bye-bye @ 13 and they changed the name to ‘68 RI for whatever goofy reason.

everything made since (outside of the custom shop) is pure dogshit IMO in terms of aesthetic and accuracy.

You need to figure out what you want- ‘58 (korina) style or ‘67, to get better input on specifics.

Yeah the 58’s look epic but I think for now the 67’s will suffice and I do like the bigger pickguard ! Probably looking to find something maybe late 90’s to early 00’s.

Stay away, far away from the designer series no pick guard '84-'85 with the Alder bodies. THEY SUCK. Alder sucks, tone less, horrible wood that should be burned out of existence. Unless you like Alder then go for it.

I had a '67 RI from the 90's (maybe a '98?) that sounded great. Currently own a Faded '06 and it sounds like shit but it might be the wiring.

YMMV.

75-81, 89-2000 67RI, 2015 Jap 70's RI. avoid 83-88 craptacular, not fit for a garbage can.

The 75-81 are my favorite.

Had the following in the past:
1981 with bound neck and dots.
1990, 1991, 2001 67 RI.

2015 70's RI has a correct 70's headstock.
Current 70's Flying V has a 67 RI headstock.
What's up with that?

You guys know much about these V’s? I thought these late 90’s limited editions were exactly the 67’ specs but just a different colour option! These seem a hybrid between both 58’ and 67’s. Anyone have one? Cheers

The 67 RI's have thicker bodies than the original too.
