They file the fret ends by hand (usually some old fat lady cause i've seen in the online factory tours). Shouldn't be a problem

Any good reason for digging up a 4-year old thread?

Should be no rule on replying to an old post , especially if it coincides with current discussions.

Picky. Can we move past this. It is a 30 second fix if it bugs you. Guitars are not works of art, they are to be used.

They are a work of art.

File marks aren't from being used.

I want to be the one who dings, scratches, and buckle rash it. Hopefully all this will happen when I play it.

I purchased a LP Standard from GC about three weeks ago. Tried out several LP's they had and decided on the one I purchased. Due to some other things going on, have not had to time to play it much.

Over the last couple of days I finally got to take it out of the case! Sounds great! (I know it's chambered, but it still has a good sound).

I noticed that the fret board at fret positions 18 thru 20 have some filing marks on the rosewood from when the binding was filed down. You guys think this is a quality issue or am I just being too picky?

Thanks for any thoughts,
Jeff

file marks are normal...It has to do w/the fineness of the file...You can have it sanded down to the point where it isn't there then you'll have to reoil the board....take it to a tech if it bothers u..or better yet...contact Gibson and see if they offer a suggestion...they may send u to an authorized repairman and have it done for nothing..

Goes to show you even after 5 years, poor Quality Control and the concerns from Gibson's buyers are for real. This thread continues seamlessly!!! Funny how this just happened.

I am not saying file marks are from playing, but the issue is secondary to the primary purpose of the guitar which is to make music. If It bugs the owner then he should send it back or fix it himself. To me if the company is willing to stand behind their product and make the end user whole then what is the issue? Does Gibson refuse to replace or fix issues?

That's called chatter Tex! If the guitar was a good or better player I'd clean that up myself rather than risk getting one not as nice. Have you noticed the ridge in the finish in areas where they've scraped the binding after the shaders but before the clear coats?

Whatt model is that with Dots?

Use a utility knife blade to clean up any rough edges on binding or finger board. Removal of material is minimal and smooth so don't worry about going to deep. I think Gibson workers may even use the same technique. I'm a furniture maker and use this technique all the time to smooth out small rough areas.
