I recently acquired a gorgeous 85 LP Custom. Unfortunately the Shaws were swapped out before I bought it and replaced with a BB1/BB3 set that just aren't doing it for me. I have a set of SD APII's sitting around and I happen to love how they sound, but I'd like to keep the gold aesthetics. Popping a set of gold covers on is no big deal...I'm handy with a soldering iron. What I am curious about are the pole screws. Is it as simple as unscrewing the old and screwing in a new set of gold? If so, are there a particular set of screws I should go for? Size? Does the screw material matter? Any caveats I should be aware of?

Screw material DEFINITELY matters!

If you have gold screws in the Burstbuckers, you can swap them into the Duncans and they should fit without any trouble.

Thanx for the help! Suppose I want to keep the BBs whole? I really don't like them, so I might as well sell them. Where could I acquire the appropriate screws?

Surely you could just swap between the pickups....gold for nickel.

Be careful some Gibson and Duncan covers are a bit off. Buy the vintage style from Mojo. Get new covers. They are in expensive and you will be happier.
