Beauty of the Re-burst - no killer tops?

It seems that the proposed book "Beauty of the Re-burst" will not include any of the highly figured tops seen in the R8-R0s. The Historic Reissues include some stunning figured tops, which have their own devoted following, so it seems a shame that it will only include those Historics that resemble the original bursts. Won't that make the book a little bit redundant, being a case of "same old, same old"? I for one would love a glossy book of top-notch Historics, with at least a chapter on the crazy tops that have come out of the Custom Shop. Guitar porn of the highest order.....

Yes, any examples of fine Historics would be good! I believe that if the highly figured woods of the Historics had been available back then Gibson would have used them. A book of Historic BOTB-type replicas would be of far less interest than the original book, as it would just be repeating itself, but a book showcasing the best of what the Historics have to offer would be fantastic. It seems odd that a killertop R9 could be something to be quarantined away from "proper" R9s as far as this book is concerned.....

I have a confession, that is a early 60 Re Issue "Classic" with changed parts, My Baby though, Miss Honey , also replaced pickups and caps aside from historic looking plastics

I was dissapointed to learn that the book will have no Signature Les Pauls. No Duanes, no Rossingtons, no Dickeys, etc. These are arguably, the most collectable of the Historic type Les Pauls. Yeah, I know technically, they aren't Historics, but they really are.

If you're talking about the book that Todd and George are working on, I'm not sure where you got your information from. Last time I heard from those guys, they had every intention of including highly figured tops in the book. If not, that would exclude most of Todd's collection. Where exactly did you hear that?

But if you're talking about a different book (of the same name), who's putting it together?

Sorry, I don't see the point. If you lurk here and in the other forum you've likely seen the contents of the book. I'm not trying to flame anyone, but it seems like an attempt at legitmizing the re-issues in some weird way. From what I gather, they aren't even going to include the most valuable of the RI's(the sigs) and some of the most realistic looking (the chambereds). THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!
Flame on!

+1

Todd has some of the best, flamey-est Historics out there. LOTS OF THEM.

Although the sig. LP's are great (hell, so are G0's, early 90's Classics, etc.), they have decided to focus on only the 1958-1960 reissue Standards that are considered true Historics. You have to draw the line somewhere, and that's where they drew it. No one is forced to buy it.

I commented on this month's ago, then the thread got shutdown
From my perspective and and only mine, its a book about nuthing.
Hell we can all see the damned things here and there, I dont even know why Im commenting here cause I dont really give a shit. But at the time I was pissed, but to me there still is no such thing as a reburst never has been never will be, its just burstshit. :wtf:

OK, I slightly misunderstood, but there will definitely be no quilt tops featured, and R8s will tend to be plainer tops, even though some stunning flame top R8s are out there. Not sure why quilt is excluded (not even one example?), or the signature models.

If there will be monster tops featured then I'm happy, otherwise I'll stick with BOTB.

I think part of the allure is how much they're worth. The general public may love EC and the rest of the Burst Boys, but if these guitars weren't pushing 1/2 Mil+, no one outside of "guitar-dom" would care what they played. Again, just my opinion.

This book actually always sounded really cool to me, but I submitted my handpicked 99 R9 and never heard back. Oh well
