Most runs of CC's and artist proofs Gibson does have at least 5 (sometimes more) "Artist Proof" guitars done. These guitars are usually given to the artists or collectors who have the original. On more than one occasion, including the Beano, the artist/collector gifted the guitar to Pat as a thank you for his work.

As outrageous of a price as this guy has on the guitar, everything in the description is spot on from what I was told (and I'm sure he was too) from the horses mouth.

So to answer your question, there are 6 artist proof guitars, numbered 1-6.

Might be some exceptions, but I think most CCs had 1 prototype, unless there was an issue. Artist guitars could have many.

Even if it's a one off prototype, the price is still obscene. Normans has a beautiful 1960 Burst for the same price. If I was spending 32k, thats where it would go. :hmm:

A prototype is a prototype. It doesn't mean the CC was approved on this prototype or that the guitar is worth anymore than any other one IMO.

I'd prefer to have the signed model for less money than this. I think EC's signature goes farther than a prototype as far as collectables go.

This particular proto was given to Eric for approval, and it is #1. I think that adds some value. Obviously this guy is out in left field price wise, but if #1 and #2 were up for sale together, I believe 1 would bring a higher $ amount.

#1 means that it didn't do it for him, hence those that followed. My co-worker was in England at the time Pat from the UK/ER office had the proto that Page finally approved for his run. My co-worker decided to defile it before it was delivered to him by playing AC/DC on it, lol.

Just before the Slash Snakepit LP came out, my GM and I were at a room at the Hilton during an Anaheim NAMM show. We were waiting for Slash to come out and give his blessing to the #1 proto. He was about an hour late, came in still wet from his shower, but (having met with him before on several occasions) he was his usual funny, gracious self. He looked at it, picked it up and made the astute observation that the carving needed to be rotated. It only looked proper when the guitar was straight up in the stand and he wanted it to be rotated so that it would look right in the playing position.... Custom Shop guys were "oh... yeah, right" but we were kind of all amused and then he goes.. "hey, now I have the only one"!

Initially I was on the fence at $35,440.98 plus $537.12 shipping. Then I read this...."Superlatives words aren't enough to describe this beauty." I may buy it now. Besides, this isn't any ol' reissue, it's a REAL reissue.

It is not number #1. I have #1 which is signed and was auctioned off at Bonhams. He has another 4 of them.
