I wish I had one to unload on some sucker. When the whole Fulltone thing blew up, I bought the only remaining OCD I could find at regular retail. Sold it almost immediately for about $100 profit.
I bought an OCD Ver 2 for the Canadian list of ~$120 US and someone on Reverb wants $345 US for an NOS in box unit. Cheapest one on Reverb right now is $160 US for a used one.
I didn't buy mine to flip.

Gave mine away to a friend about five years back.
No regret.

There's so many good inexpensive pedal options out there these days none are worth stupid amounts of bank.

I'm still convince this is another Kemper-esque social experiment, and he was probably sandbagging again.
Just goes to show how gullible some people are.

I got a text last night from a local buddy, asking if I wanted to sell my Bad Monkey.

"...Remember when you told me you got $20 in it? I'll give you $50 for it right now."

My response was "I saw the JHS video, too. Never trust a youtube video, dude, you know that. And never, ever trust a video made by a guy that founded his company by ripping off the designs of others."

If I had that kind of 'influence', I'd be making some serious bank off of it. Like Bernie Madoff.

"Guitardom" is full of this kind of stuff.

Example #1: I have a Boss FZ-5, (Frank Zappa 5...? ah ah ah!) the digital one which cork sniffers laugh at yet 2 years ago I used it on a late 60s/early 70s-style recording (think JEFF BECK "Truth" album type) I did in a studio where the in-house sound engineer owns tons of vintage gear, and I mean tons(!) of vintage stuff like EMI valve compressors, NEVE consoles, etc. etc.
He mentioned that he actually had an original Tone Bender that I could use if I wanted, I said thank you so much man, ok but I'll try mine first.
That was the only Fuzz I ended up using for the session, he was amazed at the sound I got out of that thing, and at the end of the session he asked me if I wanted to sell it to him.
They go for peanuts at the moment but in the future who knows? All I know is that it's an amazing Fuzz.

Example #2; MXR GT-OD.
It's green but it sounds absolutely nothing(!) like "the other green OD", I've used it with both Gibson & Fender guitars, and it got me a lot of work and credibility.
Cheap as chips, at the moment I couldn't probably even give it away, but then again...

Back to the main topic, I've watched the JHS YouTube thing and...frankly I couldn't tell the difference, am I the only one who thinks that those OD's all sounded exactly the same??????? Same guy playing, tone is in the fingers...
In actual reality they don't, you walk into a shop, you try few OD's and each one not only sounds but feels(!) different from the rest and that in the end for you justifies the difference in price, hence with all respect to the JHS guy, who's a certified well respected pro at his business (and a very smart guy) I can't take these YouTube demos very seriously.

I thought everything sounded different in the JHS video.

But... Not that one thing sounded any better than the others.

The proof is in playing them. Which one makes playing easier, better?

I use OD primarily to make lead playing easier.

Sometimes, I use it for rhythm grit, but mostly I do not.

A pedal is just the easiest way to get that lead boost (singing sustain) for me.

I used to use a wah pedal for most leads, but my back won't let my good wah foot do that anymore.

I always knew guys that did just this but never did work it's way into my playing until several years ago I was dicking around on the neck pup of my LP and really pulled some killer tones.

It was funny for me to find that my two feet played wah differently.

Lefty had the better mojo, but sciatica made lefty weak. Playing righty never quite cut it. Plus I had to stand primarily on lefty which was/is weak.

Other thing is...you give a great player almost any OD pedal and he'll find a way of sounding great....which goes for guitars too for that matter. That's why they're great players.

How many would get by just fine with a bog-standard Tubescreamer? So take something similar and give it separate bass/treble controls, and make it cheap. Bang.

The really good working guitarists that I knew kept it simple for any gig....guitar, then a Boss EQ pedal and a Tubescreamer in the gig bag. That way they could get by with whatever backline amp or studio/direct they'd find themselves plugging into. They may not even like the tone they're getting that night, but they'll still play great anyway. Wish I could make it that simple.

When is someone going to compare the DOD "Grunge" to the Klon?
I'd love to sell mine at a grossly overinflated price :D

This was probably the worst pedal I ever bought. Sounded right enough in the store and never again...

The DOD Tape Delay pedal I got was a POS also.

I used to be a fan of DOD.
My old pedalboard in the 90s had the old DOD chorus, flanger, delay, Grunge, and an Aria compressor and the original Morely WVO wah/volume
I used the amp channel switching between clean and overdrive, so never used an OD/fuzz
Lately, I've been leaning toward Boss for nearly everything except a smattering of Fulltone that I picked up in 2020.

The $99 Wampler Triumph has a Bad Monkey circuit setting. I use the SD-1 setting most of the time but it does sound really good.

OK, now JHS is selling T-shirts that make fun of this whole thing. I thought it was funny, but for them to profit off this after they caused it seems a little shady.

Well... given that he's selling a project box, volume pot, and two jacks for $65 as an "attenuator"....
Ya, Josh knows his stuff, but he tries to be funny when he's not, and I honestly did not like the sound he got out of his modded Fuzz Face.

But ultimately, everything he's doing is designed to make money for JHS.
