So, apparently Josh Scott did this video comparing the Digitech Bad Monkey to the Klon Centaur and literally sent prices skyrocketing overnight. People are asking up to $600 for these Bad Monkey pedals. on Reverb now. The last time I looked at a Bad Monkey, I think they were available for about $40 or so. They always had a good reputation, but this is ridiculous.

I played through mine last night since it is suddenly a hot topic.

Phil X created the first frenzy, using it as his main OD/boost on Fretted Americana videos.

It was nice to try, but I still prefer my Maxon OD808, significantly.

It's a good cheap pedal. And I do mean cheap. The battery clip wires on mine broke with minimal interaction.

It's still just a boring TS with powerful eq, is noisy and literally makes a great paperweight as it weighs a ton for a pedal.

The Hardwire tubescreamer thing Digitech did back in the late 20 single digits was far better sounding. I had them both at the same time. I kept the BM because of the broken battery clip and sold the digitech simply because Tubescreamers...meh.

Since the battery clip on mine is broken, I'll sell anyone my BM for a a bargain reduced price- $250.

I've been using mine for a decade. It plays very well into the front of my amps, and even better stacked in front of other OD pedals.

I haven't watched the video, but it's easy to make a pedal or effect or amp or guitar seem like it sounds "as good as" or "better than" something else in a youtube video by manipulating the variables in such a way to prove your thesis. That's why all such videos should be taken with a grain of salt substitute. :cheers2:

Cheapest one on Reverb is about $200 US, the most ridiculous one is priced at $11,500 US in Belgium. That's about the price of a 1966 JTM45 Model 1987.

If any one wants to offer a 1966 JTM45 for mine, I will consider that trade.

Fractal FM9 Turbo
Any Byrdland or L5
ES 225 TDC
Vintage Goldtop
Bartlett P-90 Goldtop replica

All considered for Bad Monkey pedal trade. :hmm:

Bought my Monkey new, back in the day. It's never been a part of my primary tone, but has worked very well for the songs I need it for. I've never bragged about using it, but it's always just worked the way I want it to work. And the separate EQ knobs are quite useful for shaping the tone.

All the vids I see that show it sounding a lot like the TS-9 don't surprise me at all.

I'll let the market do what it wants and the haters say what they need to say.

Mine just works for me. - But I suppose if someone offered me $600 for it, I'd have a decision to make...

I thought it was supposed to sound more like a Blues Driver due to the type of clipping it uses?

Sounds different to a Tubescreamer, to me. Usable, but I prefer my Tubescreamer. And even that is only kinda meh for what I like. But it has its place.

Idk if its asymmetrical or symmetrical clipping, but the BM sounds about halfway between the two. The BD is more aggressive sounding and brighter than the BM . The BM reminds me of the first TS9 reissue (which was brighter and more gainy than my original TS9, 10, or 808, BITD), with more gain and the improved EQ.

FWIW: It's much more like the Tube Screamer than the Blues Driver.

This is a good example.

This is bizarre. I still have one of these somewhere...got it for like $45, just as a backup OD pedal but never used on a gig. It was okay, nothing notable. Still have original box too. What happened?

Is it just PhilX? I could kinda' see like John Mayer or something, but really?

Always loved mine. Sold every dirt pedal I owned but kept that one.

I wish I had one to unload on some sucker. When the whole Fulltone thing blew up, I bought the only remaining OCD I could find at regular retail. Sold it almost immediately for about $100 profit.
