Just weighed my 2020 Standard 60’s. As per my less than accurate bathroom scale, she seems to be just around 10 lb. Def on the heavier side of the range, but I don’t feel it when actually playing or picking it up. Was quite surprised, as it didn’t feel too heavy to me compared to other LPs. Still love it, tone, looks, and playability are awesome. And a little extra heft feels quite reassuring sometimes.:dude:

In an earlier post I listed my '13 '50s Tribute as 9.2 lbs and a '17 Tribute T as 8.4 lbs.

The '17 was traded off two years ago, and I added a Les Trem II to the '13. it now weighs 9.6 lbs :) It's a fairly dense chunk 'o mahogany in that guitar.

Guess I'm in the 9 camp. '15 Trad weight 8 lbs 14 oz until I put Grovers on it and moved a bit over 9.

I just bought a 2021 Slash LP Standard that only weighs 7lbs 14.7oz...hope it's not made out of balsa wood!! It sounds good though, so I'll take it for those marathon rehearsal sessions. My 2013 Traditional is 9lbs 2oz.

Just bought a 50s goldtop standard that weighs in at 9.10. Wish it was less.

My '73ish Dlx (see avatar) is 9.7 lbs exactly. A bit on the heavy side perhaps?

Struck by how nice a bell curve that is from the statistics up top!

Except for the people who claim to have 13lb guitars, one of whom has broken scales and the other two of whom are, statistically, psychopaths.

2007 Classic Antique. Weighs 7.6. View attachment 537054
Luthier Daniel Slaman makes a solid body Les Paul style guitar and achieves the lightweight by using Cedar for the body, something that Gibson used on a very rare handful of occasions during 1952 and perhaps in 1953. (check him out folks.)

Last yr I built a Strat style guitar using a similarly lightweight tonewood called Paulowina.

A top end custom shop Strat with a lightweight Alder body will average out at approx 7.2 - 7. 6 lb.
This Paulowina Strat weighs just 6lb.. Despite its featherweight it sounds really good. Tonally speaking what it lacks slightly in body (low midrange) it makes up for in upper midrange and treble detail emphasis. Sustain appears to be completely unaffected by the light weight. Pretty cool eh ?

Its becoming clear from the stats that 1950s Les Pauls in this weight range are the norm, not the exeption. My own Les Pauls fall within this range.

I dont know how you feel about this but, as much as I love the book BOTB the fact is that it covers just 2.5 yrs, from mid 1958 - 1960. Within this narrow time frame however the pictures and technical information are exeptional imho.

Im optimistic the 6.5 yr 'Goldtop' period of 1952 to mid 1958 will also be covered as this would complete a pictorial and technical journey begun in '52 and ending in' 60.
