I've found a couple of eBay sellers that both seem to offer the same attenuator solution. One is called 'the volume box' and the other 'amp booster box'.

Both sellers claim they have the solution to cranked amp tone at acceptable volume levels.

Their solution is to place the box in the effects loop, the box has one control to set the desired amount of attenuation. How do these work? Does anyone on here use one?

Its the same effect as a Master Volume. You're thinning the signal to the power tubes. So no, it doesn't sound like a cranked amp.

It's a simple volume pot mounted in a cheaparsed enclosure (the term "stompbox" might be being generous).

If your amp has a master volume, use that; it's essentially the same thing. (And if your amp doesn't have a master volume, odss are it doesn't have an effects loop either.)

You can do the same thing by turning down the level on a clean boost pedal.
