As much as I agree with the implied premise that gun control is is a tool of authoritarianism, the OP is flawed by its appeal to emotion and its insistent post hoc fallacy. Better arguments can be, and have been, posited to support the freedom to bear arms.

Beats me. I'm too lazy to verify any of those facts.

Do you have gun control in the U.K., resulting in the slaughter of millions of innocents?

If you can read this, I'm in before the lock.

1. Do you have gun control in the U.K
Yes.

2. resulting in the slaughter of millions of innocents?
Not Yet.

who really knows, but I FEEL safe, that's all that matters to me:dude:

:thumb: I'm glad I feel sad, even if that involves being armed. I'm not worried about myself having I gun, I know I can trust myself. I was raised by, and around people, who used guns responsibly, the only ones who ever took a mans life were my Grandfathers who were send to Europe to shoot Nazis (so I look the other way)

I don't see gun laws stopping bad people from getting a hold of, and misusing guns, anymore than I see FAA regulations as stopping people from learning how to fly small private airplanes, then hijacking larger commercial airplanes, for illicit purposes. I couldve made the same argument about cars, how many people get killed from misuse of motor vehicles? many of them are authorized and carry licenses. But I chose 9/11 because my uncle was killed there, from a plane flying into his office. I've known people who were killed, or permanently injured in a car accident. In my whole life, in the US or outside, I never knew anyone who was killed from a gun (who wasn't in war)

If you think gun laws = people won't get shot (or die) wrongfully, than you've been spending too much time on the farm I think

Lies Damned Lies & Statistics.
Not sure what your trying to achieve with this post Therm apart from getting the usual praise and support from the gun loving septics.

I would love for you to explain how gun control in 1956 had any effect on the genocide by Pol Pot in Cambodia.

Wise words.

I feel safer with my 16-gauge over there in the corner. From what? Not sure, really. :hmm:

If my neighbors had RPGs and heavy machine guns, I wouldn't feel the least bit safe. Ergo, I'm one of those middle-of-the-roaders that's always getting run over from both directions. :laugh2:

I still haven't figured out what it says.:hmm:

Hey, I didn't tell you how to think did I? Here you go: I live in a town that has had NO gun-murders in it's 150 yr history. I'm not worried. As well, I learned to grow up in neighborhoods that would be considered tough in Toronto and survive without needing a gun. Most Canadians don't have or feel the NEED to be armed. Hunters who want to can get what they need to hunt. AND citizens can legally obtain guns if they can't feel safe without one, they just have to pass a few tests and stay out of trouble to keep them. And yes, sometimes bad guys get guns and use them on innocents; but there is nowhere near the level of gun crime here in Canada.:thumb:

From 1929 to 1953, some 20 million dissidents,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control 1935.
From 1948 to 1952, over 20 million political dissidents,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control 1938.
From 1939 to 1945, roughly 13 million Jews and others,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control 1956.
From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control 1964.
From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970.
From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

True Speculation at best! story and most people will never know it.

Here’s an interesting side bar.

After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941,
They could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started.
The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a
Massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River .
Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships…...
All fighting the Germans.

So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question.
Their answer…...
They know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them..

The world's largest army.... America's hunters!
I had never thought about this....

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and
Arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin ..
Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth
Largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran ..

More than in France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt
With firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of
Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters All of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
Establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone
Would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.

Food for thought when next we consider gun control. :thumb:

Theres gun laws in the US too, I don't see a specific connection between quantity of gun laws with quantity of gun crime. Personally I think theres something about Canadian people that keeps them from shooting each other than gun laws.

No, most Canadians don't feel the need to be armed. Didn't help those 14 women in Montreal, is all I'm saying. Volent people from commiting violent crime. Maybe people are less violent in Canada in general? There are fairly regular shootings in Vancouver, they aren't always from legal, store bought guns, and they aren't always used by people with licenses to carry them.

No, you didnt tell me how to think, nor did I you, but I'm just using real world examples to explain my position, as you did. You live in a town that doesn't have crime, thats fine, why wouldn't you feel safe. Not everyone lives in a such a place

"True"? Sources, please.

To my knowledge, conquering the U.S. was never seriously considered by any sane Japanese planner or leader. They wanted us to stop interfering with them, and had a reasonably good plan to achieve that, tactically, which involved islands (including the Aleutians) used for U.S. logistical support.

They may have respected our citizens being armed (but, with what?), but they sure didn't respect our dedication to close combat sacrifices. Quite the opposite, as far as I know. The Marines cured them of that misconception, but it took a long time and many lives.
