also I don't understand a new old guitar (aged)
I would be very proud of myself if I have a guitar for so many years and I have played so much that it shows wear and tear. That only means years of practicing and playing. You could argue that the guitar has experience , but in reality, the guitar shows your experiences. That's the beauty of an old guitar, it wears your marks of experience, your battle wounds.
But it would have to be mine and naturally done. I won't try to damage the guitar, on purpose, by any matter.

When some gets a new aged guitar, it does not come with the experiences, there are no stories, there is no bond.
It does not includes years of real practice and playing.

I think the commercialism has made people believe that having an aged guitar makes you a better player  as it comes with aged experience .

that's my opinion, everyone is allowed to have one, now get off my lawn !

I wear a stonewashed jean jacket, s there is that cuz Id rather not have to stand it up in the corner . Same with my jeans ... the damn chafing from a brand new pair of jeans sucks. I also have a 72 Martin I bought last year . It came with bumps, bruises and buckle rash created by someone else who I dont know . It might have a backstory, but tbh I dont care. I love the way it plays and feels.

When someone buys a Vintage REAL aged guitar,... they can’t claim any war stories either..... it’s actually new to them.

One thing about a faked aged NEW guitar that’s better than an vintage REAL aged guitar ...... you don’t have to worry if it’s gonna fall apart in your hands.

Some folks like myself like an worn in feel of old used guitars..... artificial aged can get you there cheaper and with less worry of catastrophic failure.

A lot of posers out there with shiny clean blemish free brand spanking new guitars too..... ;)

Until recently, you could not give me a Reliced guitar. I just did not get it. One day I saw this killer RS Guitar Works Reliced Les Paul that got my attention. First off, it was left handed and second, it was actually a 57 Gold Top that had been totally reworked to a “59”. I though to myself, what the hell, this would be the perfect guitar to see what this Relic thing is all about. Now I get it! That particular guitar has some real mojo, at least for me it does. I just feel strangely comfortable playing that guitar. I have a few nice guitars and that beat up “59” is one of my prize possessions in regard to guitars. Play what you like!

I've got a 74 Deluxe in REALLY nice shape. I'm mulling over getting it refinished because I like shiny new. Plus, may need regretting, and I GOTS to have nibs, so the easiest way is to replace the binding, so why not refinish while I'm at it

If its done custom with detail yeah! otherwise I age my guitars the old way I play them. I can see someone taking their beloved Poly guitar and refinishing it in nitro and playing it until it gets nice and worn naturally. But shitty relicing disgusts me so inauthentic and a terrible way to treat a lovely guitar just my 2 cents.

"Relic" was invented to push blemished inventory at full (or premium!) price

Handy savings on factory seconds that get rebadged "relic" and then have their defects "equalized" by some work-release doofus or their most useless unfireable employee, be it a relative, somebody litiguous, union or diversity or ADA

Also makes further blems generated during shipping or on store floors less of an issue

Win-win

For me, I bought my first new guitar a few months ago. Fender strat vintera series. I love it and am looking forward to playing it for years and etching my own story into it. I know its poly and probably will not age like a nitro finish but nonetheless every scratch, scrape, dent and ding on it, will be mine. Their is a satisfaction in that.
I have two beat up Gibson studios that others have left their stories on and I like that too but buying a relic-ed guitar, to me doesn't appeal.
I'm looking forward to the day when I can buy a new Gibson and get to enjoy etching my story into that.
Just my 2 cent

Every time I change strings I relic my guitar a little bit.. (or my dog does)

Set on couch, grab a beer lean over. Ding!

Lazy old dog farts and chases while dreaming. Scratch!

Maybe I should starts a bidness? My sweet eats lacquer anyway, I could make big bucks!
