Agree with this...I'd say fake is fake is fake. Some that do this are just pretending they have something they really don't. An old guitar that has seen much play.I also have no doubt that at times they try and fake others out as well as to the fact they have something that is old, and we'll played.
They can do as they please. It's their guitar. But growing up, (guitar wise,) in the sixties, the rare Les Paul guitar that one did see was not beat up, and checked like that. Most actually looked pretty good, realitively speaking.
This is just a way to pretend like you really have an old guitar.
Just living a lie really.

Its only silly when they cut holes, stain and dirty them up on purpose.
