I wasn't sure which sub-forum to post this in but, since it deals with picking technique, I figured this would be the best one in which to post it.

Anyway, I came across an article about picking tonight and thought I should post it in case anyone else was interested in it. Since it is quite old it might have been posted here sometime in the past but I figured I might as well put it up here again.

Here it is:

Thanks for the article.

Are there any pics of how George Benson holds a pick?

I looked but I did not find any that showed a close-up of how he holds the pick.

Sorry, I figured there would be photos galore. I'm wondering if maybe there is a photo in a magazine or something that someone could scan and post?

ETA - Maybe something from the gallery on his official website might show us (I haven't looked through them yet):

It's not your fault. That original article would have been much better with pics.

Yeah it mentioned he would be adding them but since it is about ten years old I'm guessing he won't ever get around to it.

Kudos for the way you are trying to learn technique.

My teacher told me to emulate those players I wished to sound like - the way they hold the pick, the height they hold the guitar with the strap...everything.
Before you understand the 'why' you'll have it ingrained into your repertoire.

In my case, the middle finger sticks out...like a mid-point or fulcrum.
Two fingers curled, an extended digit serving as a weight and then two fingers curled holding the pick.

So if it were me trying for Benson, I'd hike the guitar way up on the strap and hold the pick loosely.
I'd also find out what kind of picks he uses.
