Yeah I know what you mean, but that website is uber sketchy... I'd bet they'd take your paypal and never send you a guitar.

Merrr, those guitars are sorta enticing. I wish they didn't say Gibson on them and I wasn't afraid I would totally get ripped off. I wouldn't mind owning one of those Customs...I bet I could hot rod the shit out of one of those.

I once thought as you, until I actually got to play one. All the electronics and hardware updates in the world can't make up for the fact it's made of plywood. Seriously, plywood.

I emailed the guy running the website...
He admitted that the Gibsons were a copy...
At least he's honest...
He also said the pickups were good...
Not so sure on that...
However anyone buying a copy of a Gibson for such a low price will probably replace the pickups with high quality pickups....
not so sure about the type of wood they use, though...

I bought one just to see what they were all about. I paid about $340 with EMS shipping. The website I bought it from is now closed. (musoland.com.cn)

The guitar arrived almost unplayable. It needed a complete setup and fret dress. The nut was a plastic piece of crap that put the strings way too high off the fretboard. I replaced it with a bone nut. I replaced the pickups with Duncan 59's.
After all that, it played like a $200 guitar.

After all was said and done I could have picked up a real LP Studio on Craigslist for the $$$ I had into the copy.
I took the pickups back out, scratched out the Gibson logo and gave it to my nephew.

They use Nato wood (similar to mahogany in look and acoustic properties) for body and neck, and korean made pickups with Alnico5 magnets, that sounds not much worse than real Duncans. Rest - pots, caps, fret job is total crap. Hardware is getting better nowadays, and for fretboards they use Sonokeling, Indonesian Rosewood. Lighter in color, than Indian RW, but some fretboards are OK, quite dark. Finish - poly, ofcourse.

The point is that it's not a Gibson, and it won't be a Gibson no matter how much $$$ you spend on upgrading it. And it degrades the Gibson name.

Everytime someone buys this crap, these "stores" continue to exist...

:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

Well, I didn't know about the negative meaning of 'shifty' when I chose that name. It was more this 'Shifty' I was thinkin' of.
It's also my name for playin' FPS online.
