Gibson begins countdown to new electric guitar launches
Are all-new models about to land?
Always curious but I'm not holding my breath. JC said a lot of things that people wanted to hear because he's paid to. Like a new politician just getting into office. We're all suckers for the lies we most want to hear, but if history is any indication we're in for a repackaged "more of the same".
I don't have a problem with that, Gibson makes some really great guitars and always has. We should be careful what we wish for. What Gibson does better than anyone else is emulate US. Our character might be full of flaws, but that's where character comes from![]()
My Les Paul jar just got over $100....dang it!!!!
I’m not kidding either...

I need another SG like a hole in the head, but dang if a lyre vibrola doesn't get me salivating.
Price?Sweetwater has them in, but cant ship yet. I ordered the tv yellow special. Cant wait.
On the whole I'm likely to agree. However, we've also seen some immediate change (in a good way), that comes to mind - the 1964 SG Reissue (with the big neck), the unpotted custom-buckers, the option of a 1950s or 1960s neck on multiple guitars, which was something I personally had asked for a while back, the lyre and sideways trem equipped SGs as non-Limited Edition guitars. So far, there's been a lot of movement to back up that talk. Now I'm waiting to see how small dealer support goes. If that is a win, I'll be completely sold. Oh, and if they re-release an ebony-block SG![]()
I think one advantage JC has, is dumping all of the satellite companies that were hemorrhaging money and dragging the guitar company down with them."Features" are part of what I'm getting at when I say we should be careful what we ask for. We all know from cheap guitars that adding features is a way to make you think you're getting more for your money than you really are. I'm glad you're getting some of the features you'd like to see but I hope it's not at the expense of quality or the heritage that gives a Gibson its soul.
JC isn't like Henry in that he doesn't own Gibson, so he has no real stake in the company. He works for a group of investors looking to make a profit. Gibson has always done well in that area so there probably aren't a lot of changes coming. He said they got new lighting at the factory so workers could better see what they were doing. I'm guessing that lighting also just happens to be cheaper to operate which was the real motivator.
He talks like a politician knowing just what to say to his target audience. How many campaign promises he'll actually keep isn't really up to him, but those investors that put him into office. My honest best guess is that not much will change except for some model and feature shuffling like they've been doing over the years. For me that's a good thing because I really like Gibson guitars, and the way they do things means you can always find one that moves you.
Younger people may not understand this, but I don't mind paying for a well earned heritage. Gibson doesn't just have their own heritage but is part of an American heritage. I appreciate that not just because I'm American, but because Gibson was also part of the rock and roll heritage in the era that shaped my generation. That's worth something we'll never see on paper and what I never want to see them lose for the sake of profit![]()
